As many of you probably know, alot of guys either grow a mustache or forgo shaving entirely during November to support Prostate Cancer awareness. Being a son of a prostate cancer survivor, I want to do this but unfortunately I have three interviews this month that would probably look down upon such personal grooming choices. Anyone feel like they have enough conviction/balls to go to interviews rocking the facial hair in November?

Ah, you are referring to Movember?

A bunch of people at my work are doing this, and I've joined them "in solidarity" (I didn't actually get sponsored, so I always have the option of quitting and shaving if it looks too ridiculous 😛).

To answer your question: I definitely wouldn't do this if I was being interviewed. All people have different senses of humor and personal preferences, and I don't want to risk getting an interviewer who doesn't understand what I am doing. 🙄

keep it neat if you do! it's not "no trim November"...

I was gonna do this, but I don't seem capable of growing anything more than a pathetic beard that makes me look like I'm 15 as of yet, and I don't wanna look like a ****** to girls, and while volunteering in the er.

As for your question, I would shave unless you can grow a beard that actually looks good with your hair style...

Sounds like a good cause to not shave, but pick your battles. It's not worth doing because it may create a bad perception to your interviewer.

Prostate cancer isn't going away because you have 7 struggling pubes shooting out of your cheeks. If you care about cancer so much, shave your face, get into medical school, and become an oncologist.

I wish I had read this earlier. I had a pretty nice 10 day beard going, and I shaved it this morning.

I did this three years ago (back when I was still a freshman). Wanted to do this year, but I have interviews coming up and don't want to ruin them.

Since when did "No Shave November" have a cause attached to it?

Not a time for solidarity. Time for med school interviews yo. Save it for another time. You're talking to a guy who is in the same situation. I'd love to do this but me not this time around.

Oh sweet. An excuse not to shave for a whole month. 😎

x10. OP use your common sense...

I interviewed two guys who appeared to be doing this.... unfortunately for them, it was still October. 😕

Maybe they were doing Beardtober. I actually did have friends do that, but there was no cause attached to it.

To the OP, a beard is risky. If it looks nice (and seek out brutally honest opinions for that), I assume you could get away with it. And if you could steer the conversation toward why you have that beard (without it sounded forced), that could potentially be a good conversation topic.

I think most people say be safe and just shave it. With so many factors going into the admissions process, you want to be as safe as possible. Bad grooming can be a deal-breaker.

I can grow a decent beard but the problem is where do you trim? Do you do the face beard and trim your neck, or go Civil War grunt with it and just let it go wild? Actually, my problem is it itches my neck like crazy the first week or so it's growing in, maybe my skin is just sensitive on the front of my neck, I dunno.

I always shave, but if I didn't, I'd shave/keep whatever facial hair I had trimmed neatly for interviews.

👍

this is just like the stupid facebook breast cancer bull****

if you care about prostate cancer then either get involved in or donate money to prostate cancer research. looking like a hobo for a month won't prevent or cure cancer nor will it make anyone more "aware" of anything

shave your face and look your best for your interviews

I will be participating, but not for any particular reason. I just don't feel like shaving. 😎

I hate shaving and never do it, but even I shaved for my medical school interviews. It's not worth the risk, and so far none of my interviewers have rocked beards, so we wouldn't have bonded anyway.
