I'm a Canadian-American dual citizen who has lived his whole life in Canada. Given this I am an American citizen, but I have no state of residency. My only connection to anyone in the states in my family in NY. All my MOm's side of the family is in NY. I've applied to a couple of the SUNY schools. Do you think it would help me at all if I wrote an e-mail to the admissions folks at the SUNY schools explaining how I have no state of residency and my only connection to the states is through my fam in NY? At this point I'm just trying to score interviews. Maybe they'll take pity on me, 'cause it really does suck trying to get into schools when I have no state of residency. Everyone says, "Oh apply to your state school, it'll be your best chance, it'll be cheaper, etc....", but then I'm like crap I have no state 🙁

I'm in a very similar situation. From researching the issue and bugging the schools directly about it, I've discovered that there is no choice but to suck it up and shell out the bucks for the private schools. You may want to contact the state schools directly about it in your case anyway.

Thanks for your input leechy. So when you say you are in a similar situation, I'm just curious what is your exact situation (if you don't mind sharing). Thanks!
