yeah turns out ties don't only come in the form of unwanted gifts from your relatives.... you can also buy them yourself. Are you near civilization?
I wonder how OP is rocking his Kohls tie at his interview today [emoji5]
Picking a tie at a clothing store is easy if you ask a girl for help and you never know may land you a date😉
Dude I'm married come on have some respect
lololololololPros and cons I guess lol!
Kohl's ties are adequate ties Your interviewers didn't know you had a 150$ tie on while the guy before you had a 20 dollar one brooooooooooooooooski![]()
My Christian Dior tie tag flipped out, got asked about it haha. That awkward moment at your interview when your tie is flipped and the Ermenegildo Zegna tag shows #promisethisismydadstie #stayhumble
OuchMight as well pick up a swimsuit while you're at kohl's. You'll need it in the Caribbean

I had a zegna tie collection, but I didn't get them until I was in medical school. 😉
Can't go wrong with a Trump style power tie.

What's wrong with a red tie

Good shoes can last decades. I like Alden, probably partially because it's a US company, and it was good enough for Indiana Jones/Harrison Ford. However, I'm planning to take a trip to NYC soon and while there I'm going to up my shoe game with a semi custom last. It's going to be sweet.

I wore red ties to all my interviews and did just fine. I wear a blue suit and like the contrast between the colors. I don't think wearing a tie of a certain color actually implies something like power vs humility.

Worrying about tie color=pre med neuroticism
blue suit, red 5$ amazon tie , 25$ dress shoes, and doing pretty alright with my cycle 😉
edit: what im trying to say is you dont have to drop cash on clothes, just dont look disheveled, ur interviewers wont know the idfference between a 500$ suit, 50$ tie and 100$ shoes vs cheap stuff
Obviously it's a subtle/subconscious thing. It's not like, "Oh you got a red tie on, you're powerful" or "Oh you got a blue tie on, you're humble." Those Wall Street guys could probably explain this better.
Totally agree with you. Whatever works, right?

That's hilariousWe had an interviewee a few weeks ago show up in khakis, an Under Armour golf polo, and some very nice looking Nikes. Unfortunately, our interview groups are rather small (<10 students) and you traditionally meet with the Dean/Associate Dean in a small conference room.

If anyone literally wants Donald Trump's exact tie, here you go.
EDIT: Glad I'm not the only one wearing Brioni/other expensive tie brands in medical school. Good quality ties are the best (same with shoes...).
Dark green is fine.Real question though: Would a green tie be alright? I think a shiny dark green would stand out against the blue/grey/black ones.
He probably hoped the dean would take him out for a quick 18 after the interview.
I was in the elevator yesterday with an army of peds resident hopefuls. It was like the clone army descended on the hospital. Dark charcoal/black suits and white/off white shirts across the board. The only variability was in the shoes. And there were some questionable choices...
If you're going to wear god awful shoes, at least polish the damned things.

@kelminak
but the investment is worth it.
Cheap, low-quality dress shoes and ties are the bane of all medical students.
I also wore a Bur
That is some serious...serious exaggeration. I cant imagine any of your patients will care that your shoes are 200 dollars instead of 400.
The patients may not care, but cheap shoes and ties are usually pretty obvious to anyone looking. Don't be that guy, unless you really can't stretch a bit to afford some decent clothes.
Allen Edmonds are a good choice and they can often be found on sale if you can't swing Alden's which are rarely on sale and can cost ~1/3 more.

If you buy factory seconds Allen Edmonds from the Shoe Bank, you can get them even cheaper... for about the same price as any dress shoe you'd find in the mall (just better). I am of the opinion that you ought to buy the best you can afford. Saving money for the sake of saving money by buying the cheapest thing you can buy is no virtue, but if you can hit the "sweet spot" between quality and value, then that is a smart choice.
