Hello All -
How do you go about applying to nocturnist gigs?

Also, is it possible to work 10 straight night shifts then take off 20 days straight and still get paid a full salary?? This seems too good to be true!

Thanks!

Every job and situation will be different. Having done a year of nocturnist work, I can tell you that 10 days straight would not be sustainable for me. We thinking coming from residency that 10-days straight is no big deal, but I promise you that you will burn out with that schedule. Do you really need 20 days off in a row? That is a lot.

Also, most gigs are not 5 on 10 off as your theoretical job is.

I have heard of some positions that work 7 nights THEN 14 off but these re rare. Ten days straight is not likely sustainable unless the program is super cush.

Our hospitalists do 7 on 14 off for nocturnists at least
1 doc or NP ED admitter
1 doc or NP with the pager

Sometimes they call in another mid-level in to take call if they need to take care of more admits
