that shows nothing

your PS portion of the mcat could have been heavily based in chemistry, while my PS portion of the mcat was heavily based in physics

Quiet noob, if you think the PS varies from something like 80%physics/20% chemistry to 20%physics/80% physics you are wrong. Anyway, calc based physics is NOT required for the MCAT. With noncalc physics you don't need to compete with enginerds on their own ground and will likely end up with a higher GPA. Pretty good reasons in my opinion.

Are derivitives, like:

Distance f(x)
Velocity f'(x)
Acceleration f''(x)

The extent of what you will learn in Calc-based physics?

And isn't physics integrated in a well-taught calculus course?

If the above is true, I'd rather take Algebra based physics.

It was in my calc course. We had lots of word problems associated with D, V, and A.

Don't listen to OSUDoc guys...he told me a while back that he likes George Bush  I kinda stopped listening after that

You're right. You aren't in medical school and thus aren't qualified to discuss the subject.

taylormade44 said:
I just saw this post and must say that you are quite the tool.

Now wonder DO's have a negative stigma on these boards, because jackasses like you represent them

If you want to use the word "tool," you'll want to direct it to the correct person.

i took the test in april, i felt mine was very heavy in physics and very light in chemistry

its impossible to be the opposite?

i heard from test takers that it was chemistry heavy during the august 05 test

yes ill admit it, ill be one of those people who wish they went DO instead of MD

I don't recall discussing DO and MD in this thread about physics, pre-med. I'm not sure what insecurities have you talking about it....

Your anecdotal evidence is as crappy as mine.

Bottom line, AAMC says:

9. An understanding of calculus is not required.

you like the cowboys and george bush

i think "tool" is an accurate adjective

you do know what an adjective is, right? because i know its not necessary for medical school and a good/successful doctor doesn't need it or anything....

i didnt say it was required, and im not saying that u need calc based physics

im just saying u cant claim "look how well non-calc physics prepared me because i got a 13" when its possible you got a chem-heavy test

You two deserve each other. Although one of you is slightly more agitating.

I think another thing to consider is that you may have to take more courses to complete the physics series. At UCSB, the introductory CALCULUS based series goes Physics 1, 2, 3, 4 (4 quarters, so more than one year) while the ALGEBRA based is only 3 quarters.

Also, if you like calculus, you are NOT a nerd. I think actually enjoying a subject that is regarded by many as incomprehensible (non-SDNers) is a really cool thing to be able to do.

It's not like anyone on this board is the coolest guy around. We're pre-meds who compare stats all day and debate the difference between calculus and algebra based physics.

And besides, you can't be the coolest guy around because I am.

1. The Dallas Cowboys have won more Super Bowls than any other team.

2. I never purported to "like" or "dislike" Geroge Bush, and this is irrelevant.

3. What in the HELL does this have to do with physics? Save your pedantic banter for someone who cares.

I'm sure it provides more credibility than PS 7! Doncha think?

Hey OSU, I voted for Bush, too. As I learned 72 hours ago, even calling someone a "tool" can get you put on hold, so let him have at it!

I'm just a pre-med, too, but at least I know my place!

haha i love how every pre-med and first/second year medical student is not as mighty as thee, all because youre already in medical school

let me bow down

actually it has to do with this conversation, you said "why would you learn something not needed for medical school"

He was referring to your inference on George Bush and the cowboys - what do they have to do with taking physics? 🙄

I always vote straight ticket Republican. I'm not giving my salary to some lazy, unemployed, uneducated idiot who couldn't get a free education by filling out the FAFSA.

I didn't take courses in these subjects. Odd that they were used as examples.

😕

well he numbered them 1, 2 and 3 and answered according my to lines, so i figured his 3rd response was to my 3rd line

you ignorance shows again

the fafsa does not give anyone a free education, it provides a massive amount of loans (which have to be payed back)

voting republican, you'd much rather give your salary to a wealthy oil executive who has a 1000x the money you'll ever have?

I totally agree. And it is not that hard either. When I was younger, I would see my aunt toiling away at her college calculus book, and I was like "I have to get there." And I finally have and it feels great to know calculus well.

Yeah, I didn't really think it was that hard. I did do a lot of practice problems, but doing that helped me not have to work so hard to study for exams.

But, my dad was a math major, and I may have picked up his love for math.

Math is annoying, don't get me wrong. But Calculus is just different. It is fun, strategic, and different from any other math class I took. I'm retaking it come this fall.

1. It's not a good idea to imply someone has "ignorance" in a statement with poor grammar written by yourself.
2. The FAFSA gives GRANTS (WHICH YOU DON'T PAY BACK) to the extremely poor.
3. I'm not sure how my money is going to an oil executive. You'll have to explain that one to me.

I will never forget the moment I heard this statement "Brownie- you're doing a HECKUVA JOB!" That it was said while people were dying because they couldn't get food, medicine, or clean water was astounding. That the guy then proceeded to get replaced and later resigned truly showed how excellent he was.

You should be able to be impeached for allowing things to get so unbelievably out of control. He kinda did the same thing on 9/11 though (Hiding rather than leading). You know Reagan would have been standing on the porch of the White House with a shotgun waiting to see if any terrorists DARED to attack Washington D.C.

What is fun for some is annoying for others. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't describe any course I am retaking as "fun."

Once again the misconception that the Executive Branch of the government is completely based upon one person's decisions has surfaced.

I'm retaking it because I understand it well and I would like to commit the crime of GPA padding 😱

Yes, but the buck stops at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I was under the impression that retaking any course is looked down upon by admissions committees. Has there been some sudden change since I applied in 2003?

resorting to insulting the grammar that i quickly type into an internet forum, give me a break

well if you heat your home, drive a car, along with many other things that require fuel, you are paying ridiculously high prices

is it a coincedence that bush and cheney own portions of oil companies? they love high gas prices, which is why they do nothing about price gauging

Democrats are always obsessed with oil. If you don't like it, ride a bike.

That is so absurd a statement as to be ridiculous. GW is in charge. Haven't you ever heard of the leader taking the blame for the group? He signed off on the guy whose previous experience was being in charge of horses.

By making this post, you agree that taking the blame is different than causing the problem.

Who cares? If you owned an oil company, you'd probably do the same thing.

i find that ironic that someone who is going into a profession to help people would rather make the rich richer than help out those in need

Helping those out in need means reinforcing education and financial aid---not giving free money to the unemployed, uneducated poor who make no effort to get an education.

President Bush started a new PLUS loan program which allows more people to afford school.

Blame for what, are you referring to Iraq?

Please look at ALL politicians who own oil companies or own lots of stock in them before pointing fingers solely at Bush/Cheney. You'll find the Kennedies, Clintons, and many other prominent democratic names at the top of the bill 👎

I'm libertarian but typically vote Republican, however politics in general needs to be douched. I really get sick of people pointing out the flaws of the current administration and past republican administrations while ignoring the major errors of democratic administrations.

What a stupid avenue to take a physics and calc discussion.

taylormade44 said:
the high prices probably wouldnt continue to happen for so long if a non-oil administration were in office
Because the lobbying groups don't have their hands in every politician's pocket 🙄

bbas said:

Well. I didn't want to even go there. I was referring to the masterful mess-up by Michael Brown during Hurricane Katrina. I think everyone saw what a mess it was down there. While New Orleans was built in a stupid place, that the government didn't do more to help those people sooner should be considered criminal neglect.

Mr. Brown turned out to be grossly incompetent.
