I am applying next month and have some major rough times in my application. Although the grades are from 6-10 years ago, they're there and carry my GPA down dramatically (I'm talking about F's, D's and W's in sciences). Although I have maintained to get almost straight A's in the past 4 semesters, I have to consider the bad grades when applying.

Does anybody have any advice on what schools to apply to with such road bumbs in my app? I already know UC's will laugh if I apply, but I'm not sure what schools are not going to laugh. SGU and Ross are two schools that I'll apply to for sure as well as a few DO schools (my top choices), but I need some U.S. allopathic schools as well. (MCAT scores are not in yet)

Thanks in adavnce for your advice!

UC's will not laugh anymore than other schools will laugh. That's BS.

I had a friend get into Davis with several D's on her transcript-- probably no F's but if you retake an F its not the end of the world). If you've retaken all of these classes, then chill!

A lot of it depends on your MCAT scores bro, so wait for those before you make any final decisions. A couple of allo schools you may want to consider:

1). Drexel
2). Finch
3). NYMC
4). Temple

Not that any of these are easy to get into, but they traditionally accept a large number of CA residents and their GPA + MCAT scores are on the less competitive side. Temple likes non-traditional applicants, so that may work for you. Good luck

Apply to the UCs, you never know, also USC and Loma Linda if its philosophy mayches yours. Out-of-state ones that get frequent mention as "easier" are NYMC, SLU, Creighton, GWU, GU, UVM, some of the Philly and Chicago schools. Nothing is easy though. Apply early and widely and you'll increase your chances. Goodluck 🙂

Definitely apply to the schools that have already been mentioned. If you get above a 30, you have a shot at some of these schools. Also, apply to TUCOM and COMP. If you want to eventually practice in CA these DO schools are your best shot, particularly COMP.

Avoid going to a caribbean school unless you get rejected from US MD and DO schools.
