What kind of non-dental training are we able to do as a Navy Dental Corps officer? Where can we find info on that? From what I've been reading, you have better chances of getting any sort of training going green side, is that about right?

Thanks!

Depends on where you're working. If you're in a hospital or blue-side/fleet clinic, probably not that much outside the medical realm. If you're on a ship, you'll be expected to qualify and earn your Surface Warfare (SWMDO) warfare device. If you're on the green side (dental battalion) you'll be expected to qualify for the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) device. If you're with the Seabee battalions, you'll be expected to earn the Seabee Combat Warfare device (SCW).

Once you've been in a while, you might get the opportunity to take War College or NPS courses.

One of my professors is a retired Navy dentist. He was saying that there is some triage course you can take as a Navy Dentist that will give you a little bit of combat training and also how to handle medical emergencies while in the field...is that true or is that still even an option?

If you want to play "army-guy" do the Seabees. It is really the only way for a Navy dentist to do some real legit military stuff and you get the real Seabee device the hard way same as the non-dentists.

With FMF and SWMDO devices you are doing a watered down staff corps type qualification. It is mostly written tests and whatnot.

If you take an operational billet you might do the C4 class for a week if you are scheduled to deploy. Otherwise you have to really seek it out to get out of the dental clinic because they really don't want to let you go. For example I was able to do a weeklong shooting course with the Marines my first year, but it was sort of an exception and I got lucky.
