I'm and MS3 seriously considering ENT. I'm currently involved in a pretty time consuming radiology project that I'd like to see to completion (publishable material). And I'm also writing a case report with the gen surg dept. As soon as these other 2 projects are done, I will absolutely pursue ENT specific research or case reports. But by then, it will certainly be too late to publish before ERAS, so I will only be able to discuss the research (or simply just say I'm submitting case reports for publication) during interviews.

Unfortunately, all of my past research is also outside of ENT (basic science, surgery, radiology, gen surg/trauma). To confuse the situation even more, I'm not certain that I want to do ENT, just leaning more in that direction. I know ENT is very competitive...so is this going to hugely detrimental to my application? Basically, should I drop the other 2 publishable projects to find something ENT specific?

Any opinions would be helpful. Thank you!

You can clearly demonstrate already that you're someone who has an interest in doing research. If you do apply for ENT, try to get some ENT specific project started before your application. You don't have to have it published before you apply.
