  2. MCAT: practice exams I have been scoring around 498-502
  3. State of residence- Michigan
  4. Ethnicity- Asian
  5. Undergraduate institution- I only went to Nursing school got my ADN, then went to another school and got my BSN (bachelors), currently doing DIY post bacc.
  6. Clinical experience - Volunteer in Fundamentals of critical care support, its a certification class offered to on coming new physician residents that I took with them. It was a 3 day class.
As a nurse I was a Director of Nursing, Assistant director of nursing, clinical manager, case manager, clinical director, and currently work in the surgical ICU and am charge nurse there.
  7. Research experience - no research
  8. Shadowing experience- I have shadowed radiology, trauma surgeon whose patients I actually take care of, interventional cardiologist, internal medicine, gastroenterologist.
  9. Non-clinical volunteering- none
10.Other extracurricular activities - preceptor to prospective future nursing students, I play golf, love playing video games, and traveling 11. Relevant honors or awards- Deans list in my bachelors degree

Briefly about my situation- I am 38 yrs old, work as an RN in the SICU at a level 1 trauma center. I never wanted to be a nurse, I did it as a backup. My first choice was being a patient physician and I tried to go from the United States to China but that didn’t workout as my green card processing was cancelled. Through many hurdles I came back into the country 2 yrs later and was very demoralized. I eventually said **** it and started nursing school.
During nursing school, I hated it, and I also commuted 4 hours a few times in a week and lived out of my car. We lost our family business and I couldn’t afford a place. My engagement broke off and long story short, I ended up with a 2.3 and graduated with my ADN (associates). My first job as an RN was In the ICU and i felt like what I really wanted to do was be a physician. I finished my bachelors degree with a 3.9 and was on deans list.

I then took my post bacc classes DIY, it is online because I’m supporting my wife and family; including parents, and I have 32 credits of pre reqs and including molecular bio, and biochem, 4.0.

I have worked as a Director of Nurse, assistant director, clinical manager, charge nurse, etc. so I have tons of experience clinically and also in leadership. As well as a certification known as FCCS, which is typically meant for new residents, it stands for fundamentals of critical care support, i took the course with the new hospital residents.

So the problem is, my last 60+ credits are 3.9+ BSN and post bacc included, my post bacc alone is 4.0, but because my ADN had so many credits, it’s hard for me to bring my cgpa up to 3.0. I took numerous classes almost 20 years ago that I failed because I just wouldn’t go to class, I didn’t care for school. It put me in a predicament that no matter how many credits I take; it doesn’t bring me up to 3.0.
I live in Michigan, I’m aiming for 500+ mcat, my full lengths right now are 500-505 range.

Do I even have a shot?
What do I do?

It is impossible to predict without an MCAT but there may be DO schools that will consider you if you break 500.
If you shadow a DO (especially one in longitudinal care of some kind), you will improve those odds.
When you say longitudinal care, are you talking about Long term care? or a physician that I have worked with for a long time?

Primary Care....ie, doctors who have a long term relationship with their patients.

Come back when you have an MCAT score. We can't do hypotheticals.
