I was a history major and only took the pre-requisite classes needed for med school/MCAT. I took Calc II also, which is actually a requirement at some schools, so I don't count that as extra.

I took the MCAT before finishing Biology 101 and did fine on it and did fine in all the pre-reqs and have been accepted to MD school this cycle.

I don't think it really matters if you haven't taken those upper level classes unless the school you apply to requires it (Some need biochem etc).

Just do well in classes and MCAT and you'll be fine. Your major is non-science so people will understand why you didn't take upper levels.

I am a sociology major applying next cycle. I plan to take the mcat in may. Ive done pretty well in the pre reqs but i will have the bare minimum with no upper divisions by the time i apply. Matter of fact, i will be applying without math or the second semester of organic as well. I plan to take the orgo and math before i matriculate. Let's say i do pretty decent on the mcat... Will i be okay for admissions?

I ask for two reasons: med school websites state all majors are welcomed but the recommended classes list is very science heavy courses which would favor science majors.
My pre health advisor told me to take some extra science but i honestly wont have time.

I am looking for specific accounts of those who were nonscience majors with bare min pre reqs and decent stats (3.6, 30) who got in.

Those extra classes are recommendations. That doesn't mean they are required.

You should be fine. However, answer this question for me. What is your science GPA (you know, the BCPM GPA)? Taking extra science classes would help you raise this GPA to make it appear that you are prepared for the sciences classes since you have a lower cGPA.

I was a humanities major, but I have similar stats, classes, and results!

Just did a super rough calculation and it should be around 3.5 at best and 3.4 at worst... So lets go with 3.4.

You can get in with that GPA, but it is on the lower end of matriculants. If I was you then I would take an extra science class or two pre-application to try to bump it up. Your GPA is broken down on the application to cGPA (culmination) and sGPA (science) by year. But, if you are going to apply this upcoming June, you won't be able to take these classes.

If that is the case, then I would study to rock the MCAT. Try to get a 30+ (try for a 32 or better) to show that you are able to handle the science rigors of medical school.

Definitely do as well as you can on the MCAT and continue to try to get As in your remaining classes. I didnt have the highest sGPA but I got a 4.0 my senior year and was accepted to my first choice school this cycle.

Upward trends are definitely impressive, so work towards that if nothing else. Also, being a humanities major I assume that you're a decent writer. This can definitely be used to your advantage. My interviewer at my top choice school (the one I am going to attend) commented on how my PS was the best he had ever written and it was so interesting. You can definitely make a huge imact with your PS so try to capture your audience. Not everyone cares so much about it, but if you happen to come across someone on an adcom who loves great essays, you might be golden.

Also, I don't know if you mentioned anything about your ECs but diversity and depth in that area can help you out a lot too.

Speaking from experience, your GPA shouldn't keep you out of med school and your major ABSOLUTELY won't keep you out. Focus on highlighting all of your other strengths and make sure that they overshadow any perceived weaknesses you may have in terms of stats.
