nontraditional with postbac gpa question

So I'm applying to a postbac program and something occurred to me..

If medical schools want a high gpa, like 3.75, but most of these schools will accept gpas with a 3.0, then how do they make it into medical school?

All of these threads I have read emphasize a high gpa, along with a high mcat score, but what about these types of situations? I know some schools have connecting medical schools, but not all, so how do they get into medical school then?

First, you don't NEED a 3.75 for the vast majority of med schools. Second, many med schools value more recent work to a greater extent than older work. Third, most med schools value science GPA more highly than the total GPA, so someone with a 3.0 before starting any sciences, who then gets a high GPA in all their sciences, has a much higher chance than their cGPA would suggest.

Applying to med schools with a high GPA, high MCAT, great ECs, strong leadership experience, good knowledge of and exposure to the medical system, and research publications is ideal. Those are the things anyone should shoot for to have the best chances at the most schools. Realistically, though, most students are not perfect in all aspects of their application, so having some deficits in your record does not mean you cannot make it to medical school. It simply means you will need to prove yourself before you will have a realistic chance. Post-bac programs offer the chance to prove you can succeed while taking hard science courses, despite a prior record that does not demonstrate this.

Love for non trads with post-baccs/SMP runs deep at some medical schools. My overall GPA is embarrassingly low, my post-bacc is fit for a damn king who paid good money for it. The process is funny like that. Class of '18, baby.

Find your schools, give them what they want, and maybe they'll give you what you want.
