Does anyone attend Northeastern's Bouve school for their PharmD. program? I'm wondering how students like NEU and Boston. I know they are noted for having a good "co-op" program, but I never got to visit their campus so never got to speak w/ their students directly. So if anyone can give some opinions, I'll really appreciate it. THanks!

I was previously a nursing major @ NU, switched to pharmacy as a result of a co-op (I realized nursing was NOT for me!). That right there speaks for the co-op program, it does indeed work to #1 help you decide if your career path is correct and #2 you get internship hours that count towards taking your board exams.

The program, aside from co-op, is excellent, a 6-yr PharmD with 3 4-month co-op sessions and the last year is spent doing clinical rotations. If you stick around this area for those, you will gain great experience at world class hospitals in the Boston area.

That's all for now, specifics-reply back with questions

Thanks for much for the feedback! I'm accepted as a transfer, so I would enter into the 3rd yr of the program. I do have some specific questions, I hope it's not too annoying...... 😛

- Do you get to choose where you do co-op's? And are co-op's specific to the pharmacy profession?
- How are the Professors? Are they helpful, accessible, and good teachers?
- How is the student body of the PharmD. program? Competetive or helpful towards each other?
- Is the co-op program optional? What if I want to take classes instead? Can I finish earlier/faster that way?
- Would it be possible to work part-time while taking classes?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'll be in my 3rd year as well in the fall.

Yes, you get to choose co-ops. Most of the city jobs are set up for you already, you just need to go out & interview, it's really not difficult. If you want to set up a job on your own outside town, you can do that as well. Yes, the jobs are specific to the profession. You would work as a pharm intern for 4 month periods.

Most of the professors are excellent, I can't say 'all' but most prof's are excellent!

I've only been in this class for the past year, everyone already has their group of friends set, but I made my way into a small group & everyone seems to be helpful & we do seem to work together for our own good.

The co-op program for pharm majors is not optional since you need a certain number of hours as an intern in order to graduate and in order to take your board exams. Otherwise, you'd spend over a year working as an intern post-college before you could take your board exams.

I do work part time at a local hospital, and for the past year, I had a second on-campus job at the same time. It depends on the courseload & your abilities as a student (another good thing about co-op, you are paid full time during those 4 month sessions).
