Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any info on the acceptance/application rate to med school of post-bac students from Northwestern School of Continuing Studies? I am hoping to complete that program part time over the next two years (chem, phys year 1; orgo, bio year 2), but my worry is that a continuing ed school would be looked at less favorably by an adcom than would a regular undergrad institution.

Also, does anyone have any feedback on how important your undergrad work is in relation to your post-bac work? If I have a strong undergrad record (3.87 in philosophy from Northwestern, phi beta kappa), and if I do well at Northwestern SCS post-bac and on the MCAT, do you think I would I be competitive for upper tier schools? I am just a little worried because I haven't heard that many success stories from post-bac students.

I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas you have. Thanks so much.

Adam:

My understanding is that the certificate program through SCS hasn't been around long enough to compile stats. At least that is what one of the admissions folks told me.

As for its reputation, I too was concerned about its "Continuing Studies" status. But, admissions' rebuttal was that the program is really a seperate entity from the SCS. If you've applied you see what I mean -- the application is more involved than the regular SCS application; plus, they are much more selective.

Moreover, I know that Feinberg recognizes the program, so I'd assume other top schools would as well.
