So I will be entering UCI in the fall as an undergrad, and. Thought it is best to go into clinical volunteering right away. What if I am not able to land a position as a college student for clinical volunteering, even in my later years of undergrad. On one hand, I understand that this would be used against me in med school admissions. But on the other, I don't want to whine but it does seem unfair if I never even got the opportunity to volunteer.

There are approximately 10 billion hospitals, offices, and clinics in the area around UCI. If you look, you'll be able to find a place that will let you volunteer and get clinical experience. Your school's pre-med advisor/office should be able to help you find something as well.

For this to work out, you're going to need to be proactive. Don't wait to be "given the opportunity." You have to go out and find the opportunity. They're there.

Then you're not trying hard enough.

You can ask your family doctor for starters, or think outside the box and look at clinics, nursing homes, camps for sick children or hospice. Not all all clinical volunteering has to be done in a hospital

Life's not fair, especially if you don't work for what you want.
