My school separates ochem lecture from ochem lab. I've already taken a year of ochem lecture, but only half of the ochem lab series. Would it be alright to postpone taking the other half until after I apply? I reallly really hate ochem lab and I just want to put off finishing this prereq until next year. Anyone else wait until after they applied to finish the ochem lab prereq?

You do not need to have completed a class to have it count for prerequisites. You can be concurrently taking it and applying. The class has to be finished by the time you matriculate.

Thanks for the input, but will not having completed it before applying look bad even though it's not against the rules?

Think "corequisite".

On MANY secondary apps you will have fields where you need to input all classes they require, either completed or in progress, or they won't let you proceed.

This is not true at all. I would be surprised to learn that this person has filled out any secondaries. I filled out 20, have done well this cycle and am taking Ochem II lab now, after my app cycle is over. All that matters is that you have them done before you matriculate.

It's true some apps have prereq "grids" that you fill out, but they also have the option to input when you PLAN to take the class, so last summer when I filled these out, I put that I planned to take it spring '10 and never heard one question about it

If you say so. It's all hazy to me now, and I never had to try for that future planning thing.
