I don't really have anything lined up for the summer. No classes, no research, I'll continue my part-time job (very part-time) but I don't really want to work for 7 weeks. How big of a hole does it put in my application (I'll be applying next year)?

I don't want to be a resume padder for the adcoms and I'd like to get involved in something I enjoy...something not related to academia and something that is actually enjoyable. Any ideas?

my stats are okay...haven't take the MCAT yet. But I really just want a vacation.

Do some hospital volunteering or something.

Sounds good to me. 👍 As long as your stats are decent and you do have some research or clinical experience planned before you apply, and will also have time to study for the MCAT.

I am on 3 waitlists right now... I just quit my job and I will be moving and living at a friends apt. My only plan is to slob around all summer long and do absolutely nothing. I'm really looking forward to it.

No more dentistry?

The time honored way for premeds to take a vacation while still building their resume is to go into even deeper debt, do something exteremly easy abroad, and then chill out and get drunk there rather than here. For some reason a bar in the US is a waste of time but a un bar en Peru is an enriching life experience.

I recommend www.ecela.com if you're interested.

Failing that, you could just take a vacation. ADCOMs won't care about you not doing anything for one summer.

Im extremely jealous of you. I won't get a summer like that till after graduation.

I have to be honest. I don't like to see totally open summers on applications. I would make sure that your part time job ends up on your application so they know you weren't just bumming all summer.

You would think they would see through the ruse of going abroad to "culturally enrich themselves" as a thinly veiled excuse to get wasted and f@ck foreign girls.
