Hello everyone, so I took the DAT last year and got 20 AA 21 TS, but my reading score was 16. My overall GPA is around 3.6 and 3.55 for science. Applied late (@the end of August) to 15 schools last year and got 2 interviews, both put me in their waiting list......I'm not sure should i retake the DAT this year or not because of that reading score is so low. Can anyone please give me an advice? Much appreciate for your time!

Some people have taken the exam over because of their 16 reading score. I've also seen some people get accepted with it. Personally, I would have started studying by december if I didn't hear anything back, maybe even sooner. And I hated that exam!

You probably should have been making this decision a lot sooner than now. Have you been studying or just hoping you would get off the wait list? Anyways I would personally start studying for a retake.

when did you apply to the schools? I got also 16 on reading but my AA and TS were 22 and 24 respectively, and my gpa is over 3.9. I got accepted from 2 school.
I know you don't want to take the test again and it is definitely annoying but if i were you i would take the test again. my friend who have higher stat was not able to get in this cycle. good luck.

Thank you everyone for your comment! so after reading your advises, I decided to retake this test again in middle or at the end of July. I have been studying most everyday but not too much because of work, I work a lot! normally 10hrs/day Tus-Sat, grave yard shift. Twice per month i have to work on Sunday as well. I work for a pharmaceutical company.....not sure if this even help on my resume. Haven't see any of my friends since last year, plus waiting for school make me really depress. Anyway, got to snap out of it I guess i will quit the job or stay up during the day to focus on study.

i would take it again. since you did get interviews it seems like your app is strong but its possible the waitlists are bc of the reading score. if you want to give yourself the best shot this cycle i would start studying again and take it in august. i have heard from a few people i know that dental schools want to see a good rc score because it correlates with their students doing well in school... i have no idea how true this is lol but either way 16 is low. i feel like if it was qr you could get away with it but rc is just too important. good luck!
