Hi all,

If I have a school-specific letter of recommendation, is it ok for the letter writer to send it directly to that school? Or should it still go through my pre-health office?

If a medical school participates in the AMCAS Letter Service, IIRC you *must* send it to AMCAS, not the medical school. After you enter the LOR in AMCAS, it will generate a letter request which you print and give to the letter writer. You can then designate that letter to a particular school after you add schools on the application. If you have a letter packet or committee letter, the medical school in question may also require some of those letters, so you should also designate the letter from your pre-health office if you have a supplemental letter.

I'm a bit fuzzy on the process but from what I understand, you have to send it to AMCAS. On the secondary, you can usually select letters that you want to put in your application to that school. For the school specific letter, I would send it into AMCAS like normal and then pick it out on the secondary. Or just call the school in question and ask, makes things much easier.
