I was taught you had to have an 18g for a RIC, didn't know the wire would fit through a 20g. Very nice.
I can only imagine how much damage you could do with an infiltrated RIC, though! Yikes!

They make wires in all sizes. My peds guys use wires through 22g, maybe even 24g.

Is the difference between a RIC and two 14 gauges clinically significant?

I just ask because 14 gauges seem much faster, and less problematic - and with a pressure head and short catheter - can flow VERY fast.

I put a RIC in the foot once. It worked fine.

True. I meant the wire in the kit. If I have to hunt down another wire, the hassle factor goes way up and I'm more likely to just throw in some 14's or 16's.
