one could note the extra points but the ones already in books??

and what is the effective way of note making???

I take notes to keep myself focused and active thru the lecture. My school has a notetaking service so I don't have to freak myself out to get every word in, just do it to make sure I'm paying attention. Then I study from the noteset I bought from the noteservice. I don't read the books, except for the blueboxes in Moore's, and I reference them when I need clarification. I feel like it takes so much time to read the books that I can be spending memorizing stuff.

You already asked this same question in another thread. The answer remains the same. It's all about "active learning". You learn less if you are passive, according to many studies. More goes right by you without acknowledgement. If you write the notes, even if you have no intention of ever looking at them again, at least the info had to go into your head once for your hand to work. So taking notes is often a good idea for most people. There are other ways to study actively on your own, but this is probably of decent value --if you are bothering to attend the lectures, might as well get the most value out of them.
