I bought my scrubs on Sat. I went to the store in Plantation b/c I wanted to try them on and get the right size...also tried on the coat, and ordered them to be embroidered...really nice! I am very excited about starting school and I can't wait to meet you all! 😀
Hello everyone,
I just got back from Nova. Damn it?s hot and humid there but I think I can live with that.
Here is some new info I was able to get:
If you are going with the health insurance offered through the school it will cost you 1305 and it will be changed automatically to your account unless you provide a proof of coverage with a different company.
The price of the dental kit is 6618.79: You can pay it in full on the orientation day or finance it as follows:
12 monthly payments of 575.76 (8% interest rate)
24 monthly payments of 305.42 (10% interest)
36 monthly payments of 219.84 (12% interest)
Have in mind that you will have to purchase a second kit at the beginning of the second year for another 6618.79!
There will be an incoming class picnic on the 7th from 12:00 ? 5:00pm along with the 2007 class. The location is: Tree Tops Park 3900 SW 100th Ave, Davie, FL 33328; the cost is 10$ per person. You have to reply by the 16th if you are going to participate.
I couldnt get any info about the computer ... sorry
Well ? that?s it?.
Oh I forgot: I received a rejection letter from NYU?. Well I guess they are right ? I never paid my application fee 😛

Did you find a condo Boyan? I'm sooo excited for school to start. Well you guys have fun and I'll be back again later.
take care,
Jessica

Hi Jessica
I was wondering about that myself. According to our school website the cost of attendance is approximately 54 G's and I think we can borrow upto 38,500 from federal loans. After talking to a financial aid advisor, I was advised to take the least amount I could possible think of (to get away with...whatever that means🙂 ) and later on if I need any more, she said, you could borrow anytime in the middle of the semester. To be on the safe side I am deciding to borrow ~ 45 G's meaning ~6,500 extra from private lenders. I don't know if thats going to be enough or too much though...but better safe than sorry.

The amount of federal loans you can take out depends on how much you are awarded. It is possible to get the full 54 G's in federal loans, it all depends on need.
Has anyone got offical notice of how much they are being awarded? I called and was told an unoffical amount. Jessica, where did you find a list of lenders? I filled out that additional online form for private lenders, but i don't know if and who i have been approved by. Any help would be great.

Here is the site to alternative private lenders
http://www.nova.edu/cwis/finaid/information/alternative.html
You can also get the Health Profession Student Loans instead of Private lenders.
For the federal loans there is a limit on the amount we can borrow ANNUALLY. Acording to the website below, our DMD program is a 10 month program and so the LIMIT of total unsubsidized federal stafford we can borrow is 10,000 plus additional 22,000. and 8,500 from subsidized stafford which gives us a grand total of 40,500. The remaining money...if we wish to borrow would require other loan programs such as private lenders, HPSL etc.

I know school is starting next month and many of you are on waiting lists for the dorm or apartments in the area. The apartment is available for move in July 15th.
I'm looking for someone to take over my lease ending in January 2005. It is a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom third floor apartment at Poinciana Lakes in Davie, FL on University Drive near campus.
This 1097 sq. ft. apartment has vaulted ceilings, dishwasher, microwave, balcony, and washer/dryer in the unit.
RENT is $1070 a month, plus a $99 security deposit and $60 application
fee.
If you are interested or know someone who might be, please contact me directly at [email protected].
Thank you.

BAM-I'm going to wear a dress or a suit...not sure which one...
Josh-Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner...Looks like all of your lender questions got cleared up. I wasn't aware of the loans that Nova offered, so I am applying for those. I'll get the rest from Citibank if I need them.

Does anyone know people who need housing? Not just in the dental program. I need to move out of my apartment by July 15th and have someone take over my lease.
Does anyone know how the payment of our student kits works? If we are getting financial aid can we just have it deducted our of that? Or do we get a check for our finnancial aid minus tuition and have to write a personal check from there? I am a little confused because the forms i just got about the kits have payment options. Any help would be great. 😀
When we got our kits (3 boxes full of goodies) they usually want a first payment of 200+...I don't remember if they let you write a check but they did take cc. They don't automatically deduct it from your aid. You pay Henry Schein depending on the plan you choose. We had a few options with payments:
a. monthly payments 12-24-36 mos (with interest)
b. pay 1/2 of it during the first semester and the other 1/2 during the 2nd semester (after you receive your financial aid)
c. pay the whole thing off

Its all sent. You might want to edit your post and take out your e-mail address. Just for future reference, you should send your e-mail address via PM (private message). That way your e-mail address won't get abused.
To send a PM, simply click on the user's name you would like to send the message to and choose the "send user private message" option.

Hey all, been away for a while... How is everybody doing? I'm sure that you guys are just as excited about starting classes as I am! 🙂 I was thinking about updating the website with more information for our class, but was unsure what we were lacking. Any suggestions?
Chris

Is there any way we can know more about the computer we will be getting. Like, what are going to be the specs, payment options. Also, same with the dental kits.
I have learned a few details about these in the forum, but I would like to know what we will be getting next year.

For everyone who PMed me about Picnic and student kit forms check your e-mail, it sould be there. If there is anyone else who needs the forms, PM me your e-mail address and i'll foward it to you. Everyone needs to thank Boyan (Dr_Oh_DMD) for those forms, he is the one that scanned them in.
Another thing about those forms, i just recieved mine today which seems late. I know a couple of people have recieved them in the mail, but not many. If you havn't gotten them they still might come in the mail. You need to get the RSVP for the pinic in as soon as possible, it is due July 16th. Anyways, if anyone needs help with those forms just let me know.

JRogoff said:So correct me if i'm wrong, we can just give a deposit at the time of distribution and then pay the rest in full when our aid comes in?
Yes (at least that's what we did last year).

Hello,
I have a question to those attending and living around Nova. I am planning to buy a bicycle and go to school with it. My question is: hows the area there? Is there a high chance for my bike to get stolen if I leave it in font the school while attending classes? Do things like this happen often there? Please let me know because I don?t want to spend $200 on a bike and have it stolen on the second week of school. Thank you!

Health Professional Student Loans and all other private loans will allow you to borrow COA(Cost of Attendance) minus the Federal Aid.
Our COA for first year is 57,131 I believe (you can check this out under webstar after logging in click on Financial Aid and then My Overall Status of financial Aid). Federal Aid from Stafford is 38,500 (max). So, I think you can borrow upto 57,131 - 38,500 = 18631. I talked to a financial aid counselor a week ago about this myself.
BUT, I believe the disbursement of HPSL is based on need and the amount of funds the school recieves. So after you apply, THEY will determine how much to give you, it can be any amount (the counselor told me it depends on how many apply and how much funds they have to disburse among applicants). Also, they don't determine this until October...so we kind of have to wait on this loan. Hope that helps.
