I applied for a loan through citi and I got approved for the prime rate+.25 which I think is great. I didnt need someone to co-sign so I'm happy. The application is now at Nova and they have to approve it which might take up to 2 weeks. After that I should be fine and ready to borrow MORE and MORE and MORE and MORE and MORE and EVEN MORE...

PS:
..... do you have to pay back what you borrow? Just a thought....
 
I am happy to report that my credit is slowly but surely being cleared up. I have no idea what happened, but its being taken care of. I was told on the phone by CitiBank that if you get a co-signer that you'll get a lower interest rate. Did any of you guys hear this? I think i might as well go ahead and do this, it can't hurt. I am still worried that i won't get money before i start school. Everything with my credit should be cleared up by tomorrow. So if i get approved tomorrow how long does it take Nova to approve me? Boyan said 2 weeks, hopefully its sooner. Financial aid problems or not, i am still really excited to start school soon. 😀
 
My loans aren't finalized either and I'm totally relying on private loans and a little parental help. Not to mention that I had to do paper applications because I had to show proof of my Student Visa. I'm guessing it's going to take even longer for my money to get disbursed. Still...I can't help but feel excited about the start of school. I'm moving down August 2nd.

If Not...can You Finance The Computer Or Must We Pay It All Up Front? And If We Must Pay It Up Front...by When? I Havent Been Able To Access Webstar...i Just Sent For My Pin...im Supposed To Receive It By Mail.....another Question...how Much Should I Expect To Pay For Books In My First Semester? First: no need to start every word with a capital letter 😉
The dental kit does not include the computer. It is $~6500 for the first year and you will have to buy a second kit the second year for another $~6500
I think the computer is charged to your student account and I dont think you can finance it - you should call the admissions dept. and ask them
You should have received your pin in the mail by now. When did you get accepted? If you have been accepted recently it my take them a while to put you in the system. Also where do you live? Some people that live in Canada get their stuff weeks after those in US. Books will cost you about 1000-1500 per year for the first 2 years. Then it is reduced to 500/year. Good question Josh! Bad news though... I got approved last wed. online and I signed up my application electronically in the same moment. According to them the loan confirmation period from the school should not take more than 5 to 7 business days. As of now Nova has not received the verification letter from Citi - I spoke with Financial Aid this morning. I called back citi to ask them whats up and their response was: "we work with the school on daily basis. We have sent the request and you should contact the school." Then I asked again how long will it take for the whole thing to be completed and the lady was just rude to me by repeating the same thing over again.

Since you can't access it and are trying to make a budget, the cost of everything for the first year from webstar is:

Books and Supplies
$9,400.00
Miscellaneous
$1,800.00
Room and Board

Stafford Fees

Tuition and Fees (out of state)

Transportation
$2,540.00
Total:
$57,031.00

In the books and supplies category, the laptop is $2,165 and the tool kit is $6,618. I would assume that $9,400 minus ($2,165+$6,618) would be the cost of books for the year. So probably a little more than half of that would be the cost of books for the first semester. 🙂 I don't know anything about financing the laptop. I at least know that it is billed to your student account so you don't have to pay directly like the kit and scrubs etc.

I just picked up my jar with teeth from my dentist. He had collected about 30 of them for now. I left a second jar and told him to keep collecting. I was wondering how many teeth do you guys have and if those that I got would be sufficient for the first semester.

Boyan,

After just going through my first year of NSU, I collected quite a large jar of molars (third - mostly from an oral surgeon). The more you have, the better! In Dental Anatomy, you will be using them to identify what tooth (incisor, canine, etc) and location (Right Lower 2nd Premolar) so it's great to have as many as possible for this. During Operative Dentistry , you will probably use around 6-8 for practicing procedures. Keep collecting during your first year, they will come in handy later on.

Its really hard because no one here can make a final decision. So, how does The Davie Ale House sound to everyone, i hear its one of the dental students most popular hang outs. From there we can figure out what we want to do. We don't have any school stuff on the 3rd, so that sounds perfect. Good with everyone?

Its real easy to find, just north of school on University, can't miss it. Hopefully this is good with everyone else. The food it good and they have a little of everything. I'll get there a little early and reserve a table. If everyone can post if they can come that would be great, so i know how big a table to get. Also, i will tell the hostess that we're dental students, so just ask where the dental students are and hopefully they'll point you in the right direction. I'll start a list of people that are definetly comming. Also, if you have friends that are going to be in our class that are not on SDN go ahead and post their name too. Hope to see you all there.

I am leaving for FL on the 28th. I expect to take the whole 1378 miles in 24H. I am going to have one of the longest drives in my life: Chicago - Ft. Lauderdale. I am not sure if I will have internet access once I get there so I will see you on August 3rd.

J- August 3rd is Tuesday if I'm not mistaken and I think that day I'm just getting back home from renting at the beach, so I'll let you know if I'll be back in time to go to the Ale House, by Sunday night. Does anyone know what time we are suppose to be on campus Monday for the new student advising and instrument distribution? I probably have it written somewhere but I can't seem to find it.......thanks for your help.

Orientation starts on Thursday, August 5th. This is also the same day as instrument distribution. In our admissions packet is says that we are to report to the Terry Building (Room 2101, Terry Aud.) at 8:30am. Then we have our instrument distribution at 1:00 pm on the 2nd floor if the dental building in the sim lab.

Also, will you be going to the Ale house?
 
I tend to ask misguided questions frequently on here....... My roommate is going to DO school at Nova and he keeps telling me that I have to be there on particular dates (such as Monday) when actually only he does 😀 . Oh well thanks for the quick response, redirection. As far as the third goes, count me in. I'll be bringing my girlfriend Andrea as well.

I wanted to check and see if those of you who have finished applying for private loans have been awarded any money; if so which lenders did you use?
My applications to sallie mae and the accessgroup went in a little over two weeks ago and it still says their waiting for school confirmation......It also says that I shouldn't contact the school because they will do it electronically, but I'm not sure why it takes so long to confirm my enrollment. Thanks
 
I was having the same issue with my private loan (CanHelp), however, the financial aid office has told me that they certified my loan on July 29th. They also told me that there are no late charges on school payments until 30 days after class starts. I'm sure everyone will receive their loan money by then.
 
I finally got here at Nova!!! If anyone wants to give me a call plesae let me know and I'll PM you with my number (I dont want to make it public here).

I have also not received a confirmation for my loan. I am going through Citi and when I called them 3 days ago they said they are still waiting for Nova.

hey all, just got a reply from munbue and got his info but as for the rest of u future nova people.. for those of you who have either applied to Nova or are there now, i just have a general question.. i recieved the supplemental and i was wondering.. how many days after submitting the supplemental should i hear something (like an interview notification or something) if everything is in order and recieved? thanks all for the help...u guys have been in my shoes, u know the feeling of anticipation.. let me know some stuff..tataaaaaa... 😛
