NOVA Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
after nova receives your pharmcas application, they review it, then nova sends you the link to the supplemental if they want to interview you.

I'm not sure if this is necessarily true. I applied last year to NOVA. They had me fill out the supplemental. Only to send me a letter about a month later telling me my GPA did not meet the minimum required GPA. So why did they send me the supplemental? They wanted to make $50 I'm sure. Meanwhile they did not take into consideration my Academic Update on PharmCAS which factored in 22 more credits, yes 22, at 3.9 GPA.

When I called to try to inquire about it. I got a call back a week later just saying okay, we'll call you if anything changes. I wasn't really happy with how it was handled.

I applied again this year, as I finished my BS 3.5 (3.8 for my major) (although overall was only a 3.0, I transferred schools and my freshman year brought me down), now working on my MS in Biology. I also applied much earlier. Just submitted the supplemental today. We'll see, I only did average on my PCATs. I see a lot of people said they got interview invites a day or two after submitting the supplemental application. So we'll see what happens. Its early in the game still so hopefully they will invite me for an interview even if I'm not the greatest candidate.

I know some schools give you an essay to write during the interview. Does NOVA require this, does anyone know?

i'm waiting for my application to be mailed out by pharmcas.

Can someone post the essay questions as they appear in the application including word or character limit so that i can get a head start?

please!!!!

On the supplemental, did you fill it out in the same format as PharmCAS? Is it safe to just list the same as before? Also, do you know if there is a character limit on the supplemental essay questions?

THERE IS A 2000 LIMIT CHARACTER! AND I WOULDNT RECOMMEND YOU COPY-&-PASTE THE ESSAY YOU USED FOR PHARMCAS!

THEY WILL GIVE YOU A SUMMARY OF BOTH YOUR PHARMCAS AND SUPP TOGETHER; SO IT WILL BE MORE THAN OBVIOUS THAT YOU COPIED AND PASTED ON TO YOUR SUPP. 😎

any good news yet?

My application was received today and I also got the email stating to fill out the supplemental...but nothing about being considered for an interview. Can anyone verify the difference? I am still waiting on 2 rec letters to be sent in to PharmCAS...perhaps this is the why?

Did anyone who received an email not mentioning being considered for an intervew receive one after completing the supplemental application??

October 11th I received an email from an automated system that said "The Office for Admissions at Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy has recently received your application from the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS). The College of Pharmacy requires each applicant to complete an NSU Admission Application and to pay a $50 nonrefundable application fee. " and then gave the link and blah blah blah.

Then, October 22nd I received an email from Tracy Templin that said "We have reviewed your PharmCAS application and upon review your application is being considered for interview. I would encourage you to complete the NSU supplemental application so that we may extend you an interview invitation." and I sent it in last night, so we'll see what happens next.

Hope that helped.

No good news yet. Haha maybe i'll get an interview in december when it's really cold in NY, and i'll get to be in FL. But I know the sooner the better. We'll see. Interviewing at LECOM next week in Sarasota area. I think NOVA is more desirable for many factors though. :xf:

I interviewed Oct 4th at NOVA and our group did not have to write an essay. I had two people interview me and i was expecting a good cop/bad cop deal but both ended up being nice. I remember at an interview at another school, it was really obvious which was the bad cop. He literally had a stone face and asked some pretty tough questions. BUt at the NOVA interview, both were overall easy-going and asked a fair share of easy and not-so-easy questions but were nice enough that it still remained conversational rather than seeming like an interrogation. You guys should be fine if you go over the interview feedback. They might ask some specific questions based on what answer you give them or something on your file. Other than that, it was standard questions. (why nova, why pharm, time management, etc).

Our group should be getting the decision by Nov 1st?

I interviewed down at LECOM bradenton last week. really nice area. They definitely make the decision a lot faster than NOVA (took less than a week). I just wish housing down in south Fl wasn't so expensive....

Good luck at Bradenton! They said we were suppose to do a writing sample but we ended up not having one.

I know this is a Nova thread, but any feedback on the LECOM vs. Nova interview. I heard mixed things about this writing sample. I took the PCAT, but then again I'm exempt because I have a BS. So I don't think i'll have to do it, but who knows. I'm not that concerned about writing. More concerned with the interview. Is it the typical questions? Would you say LECOM staff or Nova staff was nicer?

I didn't have a writing sample for either school. As far as the interview, LECOM was one-on-one while NOVA was two interviewers. Both schools asked the typical questions: why nova/lecom, why pharm. Bradenton asked me about leadership, nova didnt. Then nova asked me about time management, but LECOM didnt. NOVA was open file, LECOM was closed. I'm sure this will vary and you wont know whether you will get open or closed.

LECOM asked more questions about roles of pharmacists, what they contribute as clinical pharmacists with doctors in a hospital setting, and what type of things i would do to change their role. I also had questions concerning retail pharmacy. Additionally, there were questions about leadership roles, conflicts, and angry customers/patients.

NOVA asked me about my grades, PCAT, my research experience, my hobbies, where do i see myself in 10 years. Also, two questions i did not see in the interview feedback (unless i overlooked it) they asked me were 1) what do you think about our dress code and 2) what do you think about our mandatory dress code.

Both staffs to me seemed nice and the same can be said of the interviewers. However, some interviewees had diff impressions so not sure if I got lucky.

Hope this helps

Hmm, I wonder if sending an email to check on the status of the application is a good idea. What do you guys/girls think? Is it too needy or pushy if I were to send an email to Tracy to check on the status?

That LECOM interview seemed kind of brutal. Is ERIE similar? Seemed like they were drilling you.

That sucks. I wouldn't say mine was brutal but the lady was really cracking down on some of the things i answered and wanted me to further elaborate. BUt other than that, i didnt get that impression. I know there were 2-3 people i talked to during my interview date that felt the same way you did though. Not sure how ERIE is.

It's a good idea to see what's going on and it doesn't hurt unless you do it excessively. They'll find it reasonable for you to inquire about your application. Tracey seemed helpful when I asked her about things via email. If you send an email and get no reply, try calling in.

The faculty and staff at Nova are really awesome, at least at West Palm they are. Be prepared for anything during your interview though, because the interviewers (whom are faculty) are known to change things up. My interview, as well as many of my classmates interviews, were pretty brutal...bad cop/bad cop scenario. While I know some classmates who had easy-going interviews.

They will ask you about your time management skills, ability to handle a heavy school workload, work experience (if any) and the how's and why's you chose Nova and Pharmacy in general. Plus they will likely ask you some off the wall questions that have nothing to do with Pharmacy or Nova. I was asked about what books I was currently reading and also some odd character questions. They often do stuff like that just to rattle your cage a little and see how you will respond. But all in all it wasn't too bad.

Biggest advice is to just be yourself. Be open, honest and sincere with your responses and explanations. Interviewers can always sense bull**** and what not, so don't try to get cute with them. In fact, I actually got into a semi-argument with one of my interviewers due to how I answered a question. I felt I was correct and I stood my ground and logically backed up my opinion. Although it was very foolish of me at the time to even attempt something like that, I ended up gaining their respect because I stood my ground and wasn't disrespectful with my response. Although after I left the interview that day I was 100% convinced I blew it and shot myself in the foot. Luckily I was wrong and I got accepted anyhow.

I can't speak for the Main Campus but West Palm is really awesome. We are getting a brand new state of the art building, so that's a huge plus for incoming students too. Classes aren't too hard, but it can quickly become overwhelming if you don't stay focused, organized and disciplined in your studies. Anyhow, enough babbling...

Good luck to you all, you all will do fine.

Has anyone heard back from nova yet after their interview? When do you guys expect to hear back?

This is what Ms. Templin emailed me

I just wanted to update you and let you know that the admissions committee meeting has been postponed a week to October 29, 2010 and that you may not have a decision until the second week in November instead of the beginning of November. I will be in touch.

So don't worry, give it another week 👍

Got my interview yesterday!!

Got an email saying my app was being reviewed and 10 mins later got an email saying I was invited for an interview. Where is the thread that goes over each school's interview topics ( if such a thread exists) ?

If you read the earlier posts they have questions....

I got accepted to wpb campus today 🙂

Congrats! You're gonna like wpb, we have a small and close student body. Plus, we're moving to the new building next fall and it should be 1000 times better than our current campus. If you have any questions about anything don't hesitate to ask.

For the people who interviewed on Oct 27, have you guys heard anything? I'm getting really anxious.

Thanks and good luck!!! 🙂

Thanks ellina. I have no idea what my top choice is, it changes every month lol but Nova is definitely top 2. If I got accepted, there is a really good chance that I would attend.

How long after your received an email saying your file was being reviewed did you receive an interview? Any answers greatly appreciated...I'm nervous nervous nervous!!!

My PharmCAS was verified October 6th.

I received an email from Nova on October 22nd telling me to finish my supplemental application so that they can give me an interview invite.

I sent my supplemental October 26th and received my interview invite by email October 27th.

My interview is scheduled for November 29th at 11:30AM.

Not all applicants would get an invitation to a interview right away unfortunately. Do you mind to share your stats? Maybe they're waiting for your new PCAT score..perhaps?
