Hey,

I just looked on the Adea thing and looked under my status, and it said Nova Denied my application. I am really freaking out now. I dont no if its a mistake or anything. Im so stressed im already 0 for 2. Case and Nova out both out. There has to be something wrong. I have a 3.51 GPA 3.3 Sci, 18AA 19TS
Why are schools just rejecting me. Are that many more students better than myself?

take a look at some of the students applying on sdn....there are lots of people with amazing stats.

if anything, your DAT may be holding you back...and 18 is good but not as competitive as some of the scores held by other applicants.

don't lose faith yet...theres still time and plenty of schools to hear from. besides, not everyone gets in everywhere...no matter what their stats are.

best of luck

did you interivew at all, I am guessing not with an 18AA. Am I right?

Per Dr. Lippman the avg. NOVA applicant this year had AA of 20+. That could be a reason but an 18...that is pretty respectable.

I got a denial as well. I thought I was fairly competitive. I think it may be partially that I was a little late considering how early they started giving out interviews.

SDN can be a great resource, but it can also be a source of misinformation. Not all applicants have 4.0 GPAs with 25+ DAT scores . . . only the ones who post here. 😎

I got an interview with 19/19/20 and 3.39/3.56,if you look on predents there are lots of us like me not just the 4.0/25+ freaks.

They gave me an interview in February. I did not have 4.0+ and 24+ like every one elese in here; however, I wrote a fantastic essay, plus my letters of recommendation are not your typical LORs. Oh yeah, tons and tons of clinical experience, research, and volunteering work. They do look at everything👍 .

How does one know they wrote a "fantastic" essay? I'm not implying that your's isn't fantastic, I'm just wondering how you know so. I feel different admissions officers are looking for different things: some want unique, others probably want something serious and to the point.

I feel like I wrote a pretty good essay. The dean of my pre-health advising office liked it. But does that mean the admissions people will? I hope so.

i think the difference between a great essay and a fantastic essay is when you spend a month working with 5 different English professors on your essay. I also let 2 dentists read over it to make sure they love it. I guess i know so because all 5 professors thought it was fantastic. The dentists also agree with the professors. I'm sure yours is fantastic as well.

it also helps to have an ADCOM member take a look at it like I did 😉

I had 3 ex-presidents, an astronaut, Bill Gates, Bono from U2 and Albert Einstein's ghost go over mine

It just so happened that a local periodontist that I shadowed teaches at the school 2 days a week and was an ADCOM, but Albert Einsteins ghost? pure genious, except for the fact that he probably doesnt speak/write english too well LOL

I've been chargin' mah lazer all week so far. I figure, with the UoP interview on monday and Oct. 22nd being tommorow, I'll use it on whichever is more threatening

I would use it on the interviewer when they ask, "how do i shot web?"

how do I got accepted?

You're on the right track. Also, with all the purported board scores and rankings these schools throw out at us, I'm thinking we should bump for sauce.

I was denied as well.

ps: In her drawer ..armorshell...you guys need to get a room 😀

OMG I just spat dew all over my laptop, you all are hilarious. Bono Einstiens ghost....genius!

Hey,

I just looked on the Adea thing and looked under my status, and it said Nova Denied my application. I am really freaking out now. I dont no if its a mistake or anything. I also did not get an interview from them, or anything at all besides an e-mail in August. My application was complete and went out from AADSAS in early August. I have a 3.86, 20AA 17PA 20S with a year of shadowing, and over a year of paid dental managing experience, and nothing yet. Maybe it's because I applied kind of late. Does anyone know how to get a hold of NOVA??

omg, Evision, you got denied with those DAT scores? If you don't mind me asking... do you know why? Seems like with those sats that should have never happened, sorry to hear that!

all of my stuff was into nova in june and I haven't heard anything yet, except my application is complete

Have you tried calling them? Have you done the secondary app?

Maybe they know what you did last summer.

whatever. Nova ended up being a waste of money. My 99th percentile DAT and super strong GPA from a Top Tier private college...got my application denied. Did I mention I have close to a thousand community service hours logged?

I'm not thinking very highly of Nova.

Hey guys I checked my application online myself yesterday. Right beside Nova it said recieved/ Application denied. I wonder whats going on with them. I heard that they were supposed to be an easier school to get into. Oh well I guess I dont have to worry about driving all the way down to Fla. now huh, lol! By the way my stats were 20AA 20 TS 19PAT 3.58 GPA. I guess this year its getting really competitive. I guess it is to be expected with all the higher DAT scores being posted.

I'm not worrying about Nova. I have five interviews at schools that I would love to attend and Nova never even asked for me to fill out a secondary. Haven't been denied yet, though...

they're out of space. so they're rejecting left and right. I highly doubt they even really, really look at apps. Since they offered interviews to lots of lesser-qualified students early on.

I seriously hope their top scores decide to not go there, leaving a bunch of seats to be filled. ooh, mean ole me.

so do you guys think it is a good thing ( for now ) that it doesnt say anything next to NOVA in the aadsas status page???
🙁

I'm in the same boat. Filled out the secondary and everything. There isn't a status listed on my AADSAS, either. I guess I'll call. I just remember everyone ranting about how they couldn't get through. I wonder if it's worth getting an interview in fricken july 🙂

So there is obviously an issue, what is it? Did you apply late? Explain...

Alrighty Mr. Hitler. I'll oblidge with your adamant request for an explanation. (eh hem, eh hem... you could also politely ask next time)

Like I said, Nova's spots are full. They're rejecting left and right because they gave out close to all of the interview spots. ...They gave out close to all the interview spots after only reviewing about HALF the applications. Now they really don't have the option of giving out more. Silly them.

My application was completed early/mid Sept-ish

...however, it could be possible they're now in backup mode. They could be sending interviews to those students with less competitive stats, in case the top students decide to not go to the school. If it's true that the avg applicant has a 20+ DAT, that means that their avg for entering students would jump from 19 to 21 or so in one year. That's a huge leap. That would be true unless... the majority of those 20+ DAT's don't end up going. Considering that they've saturated their interview invites already to those with solid stats, it would be wise for them to save some spots for the less qualified that WOULD go there.

okay, so you were late. You submitted your app 2 months after I had my interivew invite. I get it now.

What is with the hitler thing? Name calling isn't that cool. I gave it up remember, the new leaf deal.

I still think you don't have to worry, good luck!

your response was rather..... a direct, authoritative command. You said "Explain..." rather than "Would you please explain?"

yeah, they used up almost all their interview spots before they got through half their applications. i think they also want to see something besides good DAT and gpa. they take alot of returned mormon missionaries from what i hear...something about maturity, bi-lingual, married, kids, poor, hungry 🙂 . the list goes on and on.

Sorry about being bossy bro. I just wanted to type as little as possible since I type 3 1/2 wpm with 5 errors. Good Luck.

that or...something about mormons.

Those same qualities can be found in lots of candidates. If they're granting disproportionate amounts of interview invites to mormons, then they're likely looking for mormons.

But isn't the mormon deal with Loma Linda? not Nova.

nothing against mormons but why do so many of them get interviews, what makes them so special?

Nova has no real preference for mormons, and LL is seventh day adventist. Anti mormon almost.

i don't know about loma linda. i know they have something going on w/ some religious group, but i never heard which one it is. also, you're right about those qualities being found in non-mormon/non-missionary applicants. it might also have to do w/ the fact that utah doesn't have a d-school so nova knows they have a good chance of getting great applicants from utah to go there. if you're gonna' pay a lot for d-school you might as well live in ft. lauderdale and get a tan.

but i hear, that Marquette, Louisville, and UNLV love mormons, why is that? are they that much better cuz they went on a mission?

It is our 45 wives, jk

Most serve 2 year missions and the church teaches obtaining as much education as possible. We aren't that special, per se*, there are just a ton of us applying so it looks like there are schools playing favorites.

*special is in the eye of the beholder.

but i hear, that Marquette, Louisville, and UNLV love mormons, why is that? are they that much better cuz they went on a mission?

some are and some aren't. i think my two years as a missionary helped me to grow up and gain a better focus on life. i felt like i matured a good five years in a two year period. like i said, that doesn't mean a non-mormon non-missionary can't have the same experience in college. i just think some schools are looking for certain characteristics in applicants and they've found that those traits are usually (not always) found in people w/ backgrounds such as being a mormon missionary. it makes it easier for them to project what type of student that individual will be so they feel more certain about the future of the school.
however, i've been told by adcoms that mormons can be very clique-ish, so fellow mormons be sure to branch out and share the love.
