How does being the first class out of a medical matter for matching? Does this actually hurt students applying for competitve residencies?

If I were you, I would go ahead and apply. They don't have minimum cutoffs for GPA and MCAT however they do state that they will be using some kind of threshold for screening primaries. Since they are a new school, they might be more lenient if you can make yourself shine in secondary and interview.

Wtf? Uncalled for. I was simply implying a question of whether this school is going to be very selective with stats.
And I was simply implying that a 3.5 is terrible and you should probably consider another career path.....

(oh God, I hope she understands sarcasm)

Anyone here gotten a secondary for this school yet?

I received a secondary email. Here are the questions:

1. Please provide an example that indicates your ability to function effectively as a productive member of a team working toward a common objective. Elaborate on leadership roles you held in this capacity and how you solved problems that arose. Indicate highlights learned from this experience. (Maximum 4000 characters)

2. Please share some personal examples of problem solving in a team environment and/or leadership experience that would lead to your success in a PBL environment. (Maximum 4000 characters)

3. At NSU CAM, we value the unique perspective that each applicant brings. Identify any traits, life experiences, or interests that a professor or advisor would not normally know about you. (Maximum 4000 characters)

4. How has your academic work beyond the “traditional” pre-medical school requirements (i.e., introductory biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and introductory physics) prepared you for medical school and for a career in medicine? Please highlight any service learning activities that align with humanism in medicine. (Maximum 4000 characters)

5. Is there a time gap between earning your last degree (baccalaureate or other) and the expected time of your medical school matriculation?

If yes, please explain. (Maximum 4000 characters)

6. Were you employed full-time (or part-time) during your undergraduate or graduate years?
If yes, please explain. (Maximum 4000 characters)

7. Do you believe that you are a member of a group that is under-represented in medicine?
If yes, please explain. (Maximum 4000 characters)

8. Have you previously applied to any medical school (M.D., D.O., international)?
If yes, please explain what steps you have taken to improve your overall application profile for this admissions cycle. (Maximum 4000 characters)

9. Are you the first person in your immediate family to earn a baccalaureate degree? (Yes/No)

The Secondary App fee is $50

Do they have a FAP waiver?

Not sure, I can't access the fee payment page until I actually submit the secondary. The email and rest of the secondary does not mention anything about FAP Waiver. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to even begin the secondary until after this weekend and it's a long secondary too (I may not even complete it for this reason). You'll have to wait until someone else finds/posts more info or submits/pays.

So this curriculum is half PBL? During each block it'll be half lectures and half PBL?

From what I recall, it seems like it's all PBL, unless they released new info since I last looked.

On their website they talk about a PBL hybrid with basic science courses and systems. But they don't explicitly say exactly how the curriculum will be

for #4 on the secondary, can anyone explain to me what a "service learning activity" is?

I wrote about my volunteer activities, could be either healthcare or non-healthcare related.

I feel like its asking about academic work since that what the first part of #4 is about.....how is a volunteer activity a learning activity? I see the service part is being addressed but not the learning part lol

Recieved the secondary, wrote it, revised it. Im having someone read over for me right now. Going to do another read over and it and revision if necessary and I want to submit tomorrow so they know Im interested.

what are people projecting the avg. MCAT/GPA of the incoming class will be? Are we talking 510+ here?

Would love to hear someone's opinion on this, especially since there is no financial like U of Illinois is offering

It probably honestly depends who applies. Hard to know with a new school, but Id say slightly lower than the rest of the FL schools because a lot of the weaker applicants are probably trying to add it as an extra school, thinking it will enhance their chances since it was brand new

Hey y'all just wanted to post here since there's no official nova thread. I got an II today, and the FAP works for the fee

+1 interview. January 5, who's with me
Can we switch? Lol I have Dec 8th. I received an interview invite yesterday. The problem is that's the date I was planning to go to FIU interview. The only other days I can go to FIU are in the middle of a new week-long Job orientation, which I can't miss. It's looking like I will have to have to hope my interview is rescheduled to a day I can go, even though they say they don't reschedule, or miss out on the only school I applied to early.
