What are everyone's thoughts on LORs? I know that atleast 1-3 SLORs are required by most programs, and I have heard that it isn't a bad idea to get a letter from another specialty, preferably IM or Surgery. That being said, is it ok to have just 3-4 SLORs and no letter from another subspecialty? Alternatively, what if another is written but its from a different specialty, say Peds?

May sound convoluted, but although I did great on my IM/Surgery rotations, one was too early in the year and the other I just didn't feel like I really got to know an attending well enough to get a STRONG letter that I may could get from another specialty. Thoughts? Thanks!

It's ok to just have SLORs and I would not get a LOR from someone unless you know it's going to be great. It really doesn't matter the specialty, I think it's more dependent on how well the attending knows you and how impressed they were.

But if you have 3 great SLORs, I wouldn't worry about it.

Cool, thanks for your help!
