Hi all,
This is kind of a silly question but I'm only in high school so I'm not very familiar with how these thing work.
I was wondering - So once you've finished pre-pharmacy, after applying to different Pharmacy schools, and you don't get accepted to ANY, what now? I know you have to wait until the next year - but what do you do until then? Do you take other classes? Wait around?
Thank you!

Play lots of golf.

If you have the resources, I suggest taking advanced science classes such as biochemistry, physiology, immunology, and microbiology. Maybe even some advanced analytical chemistry classes related to kinetics and equilibrium. You may be able to use these classes towards the completion of an undergraduate degree as well.

Or, you could find a job in a pharmacy somewhere and learn the ends and outs of that pharmacy and become a certified technician.

Study and retake the PCAT if you didn't make over 90%.

Do volunteer work.

Save kittens.

Play golf.

Hah.. no, I don't play the fiddle (I wish...)! 😉

Acetyl, THANKS so much for the needed info!

I assume you're going to be applying to 6 year programs?

If you aren't, yeah pretty much you just have to finish you pre-reqs, maybe get a bachelors, and then do extracurriculars and volunteer work during your undergrad career.

Those who don't get in the first time try again the next year by improving their PCAT score, improving their apps (some schools not the majority of them will tell you where your weak points were), retake classes, etc.

What if you don't really like pharmacy???? What if you find you prefer laboratory research or dentistry or any of a number of other fields??

IMO - you should think about a Plan B (& not in the contraceptive sense🙂 ). You'll need a bachelors degree for just about anything.....so find something which stimulates your mind. Find something which is interesting to pursue.

Then, even if you do eventually decide & become accepted to pharmacy school...you can take that interest with you - it may lead you down a specialty path you'd otherwise never consider.

I hear underwater basketweaving is making a comeback. Probably in serious demand on cruiseships:laugh:

Seriously though you could major in finance and go to pharmacy school as long as you meet the prereqs. So definitely find something fun and go for it. Heck, take pharm tech classes if you haven't. They're offered at JuCo's and they're fun.

Most of us apply in the summer right before our junior year in college, so while waiting, we are taking classes to finish our bachelors. If you are a high school student, think about taking a 6 year pharmacy program. It'll save you the tuition and years.

Yeah, if I get accepted to any of the 0-6 that I applied to, I would most likely choose that over the 2+4. Still keeping my fingers crossed though.

Hmm, I dunno though -- underwater basketweaving sounds awesome though.. I might go into that instead. Haha. Kidding. 🙂
