Does anyone have any experience with recertification for the National Registry EMT-Basic? I have to get it done by March, and will be taking the computer recert. test, but was a bit confused. If I pass the test, am I all recertified? The instructions for recertification by computer exam confused me a bit.

The national registry has offered taking the written test over for your specific level. I know at the paramedic level if I take the test and pass it I will be recertified again for two years. Its either do the refresher training or take the test. The test will replace refresher training or the refresher training will still work as it did in the old days. Unless your state lets you just take a test to recertify I really don't see the benefit to taking the test.

I'd assume all this is the same for the basic level.

On the same topic - has anyone taken the computer-based test as an option for recertification yet? How does it compare to the written National Registry test? Curious as I took my NREMT written almost 2 years ago - passed with flying colors, but I can find next to nothing about the computer-based recert exam online. Going to call NREMT tomorrow as I'd rather go ahead and try to recertify by exam first - pay a couple hundred bucks for a refresher course next!

Thanks in advance...

My recert is due too...and I was wondering the same. Keep us informed what you find out from NREMT👍

I took the computer-based version of the NREMT last July. Assuming that the test to recert is the same as the one you take to get certed, the way the computer-based test works is it can ask anywhere from 70 to 150 questions (I think 150 is the max anyway), and everytime you get a question right, it asks a harder question...this trend continues until the test is "satisfied" with your knowledge in that area and starts questioning you in a different area. If you get a question wrong, the test will ask you an easier question and then follow the same trend as before if you get it right. Basically, the test will keep asking you questions depending on how many you get wrong to see if you have enough proficiency for it to allow you to pass.

The caveat to the 70 - 150 is that you can get cut off at any time before 150, and if you get cut off at 70 questions, then you either destroyed the test, or it destroyed you. Personally, I liked the nice, quiet testing area and doing the test on the computer. I'm sure the questions aren't any different than on the written version....BSI and scene safety are huge, it /loves/ pediatric questions, loves OB/GYN questions, and the test also has a hardon (rightly so) for patient assessment questions.

If you have any other questions about the CBT version of NREMT-B, feel free to PM me, as I still recall the experience very well since it was fairly recent. Well, within the last year anyway.

Boy is this timely...

Where can I find said test? Does this apply to the Int/85 level? I'm due also, and not working for a service. Are you able to go inactive and use the test as your refresher?

I would think you still need to show the CE's, beyond your refresher/test, regardless, so there may be more to the process than just taking the test.

Prolly q's for NREMT, just thought I'd throw them out here.
