Now to find a place to live. Do you think if i searched in June that would be cutting to close?
June is definately pushing it, depending on when you are wanting to move--it may limit your options substantially. If you want to wait til June, your best bet may be to find someone who already got an apartment who is looking for a roomate.

Most apartment complexes regularly remain at 100%, they turn most empty apartments within a week to ten days of someone moving out. You should know where you want to live and have everything lined up right at the 60 day before move-in mark.

hey so i was interested in living within walking distance to nova and i was wondering if there are any restaurants or supermarkets around there? where/what do most students eat?

Restaurants, yes there are a few. The nearst grocery store is driving distance. Most students eat breakfast/dinner at home. Those who live within walking distance mostly go home for lunch, the others are a split between brining their lunch, eating in the cafeteria, random club meetings, and the restaurants.

All that being said, it isn't very fasible to live down here without a car. I only know of 2 students (I am sure there are a few more) out of the 240 who don't have a car.

Yay, I'm leaving tomorrow to go look at places to live for school. I've been looking at a lot of listings, but it's so hard to tell how close to school they are. I'm not leaving Florida without finding a place to live, so the next three days will be a lot of busy fun.

thanks for the food info! there seems to be a Whole Foods across the highway or something (says Mapquest, but i'm not used to suburban sprawl...)?

uh oh! i'm from nyc! i don't know how to drive a car. 😳 i am going to learn how to ride a bike this spring though... would biking places be feasible? is there a public bus system?

who's doing the MEDSTART program in July?
🙂

when do most leases start? i wanna move in maybe early july or whatever so what time should i go apartment hunting.

personally, i wanna live maybe 10-25min driving from nsu during peak traffic times. one bedroom would be nice! im going to go visit the area around april 10th, so would this be too early to sign a lease/deposit for when i wanna move in? never done this stuff before so kinda confused. also, suggestions for complexes would be nice! thanks guys

Most of the apartments give a 60 day notice to renew their lease...since most ppl's leases start/end in july...60 days prior would mean stuff will open up in may'ish...

condos are another thing..I think a good idea would be to call up a realtor..and have him scour the area to look for places..

And no..its not too early to pay deposits, etc...Ive already paid my deposit to Palm trace landings to be put on the wait list there..so when stuff opens up in may..i'll be one of the first on the list (btw..im still looking for roomates PM me if you're interested) ..The cost of living is pretty damn high..so good luck on everyone's quest to find housing...🙂

GGGGEEEAAAAAUUUUXXXXX TIGEEEEEERS!!! Mikey, you aren't mad are you? lol. Can't mess with those cajuns. It looks like LSU messed with Texas.

Beware, cajun. There is a gator in the swamp. Go Gators! As for medstart I am hoping to be there.

i'm interested in doing the program, too... right now, i'm hoping to move down there mid/late june...!

Most of the people that live in Cameron Cove Love it. A few things to keep in mind as an "fyi." They are one-bedroom apartments only, I believe their stove is a little small (not full size), and they have no washer and dryer (I don't even think they have hookups), and no dishwashers. If those amenities aren't important to you--you will porbably love living there.

Pros: Walking distance to school, this year (don't know if it is going to continue) AC is provided as part of your rent.

There is a public bus system. It is not very reliable...and I would definately question it's safety. The whole foods is 5-10 minute drive from the school (I actually live next door). The distance isn't too far to ride a bike, but I personally would be worried about my safety. I know triathletes who ride nearly all stationary here to avoid having to get their bikes on the roads (yes, the drivers are crazy). I am sure you would be able to rely on your classmates for rides to/from grocery.

You may want to PM Karina (look back thru the posts, she is on here)...she may have first hand input to share....as she is from around this area and is currently w/o wheels.

Good Luck! You will be fine with everything!!!

I am giving up my seat at Nova. I hope someone gets the chance I was given. Thanks all.

I was told the same thing about CLEP credits. Just go to the college board website and there you can access info on scores. They keep records for 20 years.

Did you just call her up or did she call you? I sent most of my things in and no word about being complete or not.

Hey everyone,

I am not sure why I waited this long to post on SDN about how excited I am about going to NSU, I guess using the SDN for the MCAT wore me out. Anyway I can't wait to meet everyone, and if anyone is here in Austin,TX let me know and maybe could meet up and go downtown or something. And let me know if anyone is on facebook... that damn addicting site. Andy Potter (Auburn Class of 2005 NSU Class of 2010)

yea but it says it's $25 bucks to send a score report. i heard from other people that your school's transcript validating the ap credits is sufficient..i'll call delia again..i called the admissions office last time and she picked up.

Let us know what you find out lunallena..All of this stuff is getting to be a pain..

Anybody else having a lot of trouble completing financial aid file?

Or still shown as out-of-state, but really an in-stater? (after submitting proof of residency)

Is the in state tuition $32,000 or am I being charged as out of state?

The In state is 20 something thousand..about 6-8 K cheaper than OOS....The only thing I have to do is be "officially admitted into a program" i think it means i need to send in all the transcripts

Is there any possible way to claim in-state tuition following a year of living in Florida? I was hoping to save about 20K!!

I don't think so. You would have to be an established FL resident before starting @ NSU.

It is a pain, but just do what you can. You will still start here in the fall, and everything will get straightened out. The financial aid is not a make or break thing. I didn't get my transcripts all to them til sometime in June last summer and they didn't kick me out...

Tuition for OOS is $@#$ up. Oh well, I just will not eat and live out in my car for the next 2 yrs and in the hospital the last 2 yrs.

You can come live with me in my parents' house. I've got my own room.

I know ppl don't like taking out the loans, but there really is enough loan money available to live off of. Don't worry about surviving. Those who are in state just have less loan money available to them.

Has anybody seen the NSU 2006 residency match list yet?

on Web site - current students- clinical education-internship sites

Delia said you have 90 days after school starts to send in all of your transcripts and you will not be dropped from your classes or anything. the only thing is that your financial aid will not disburse until them.
i'll graduate in june but my school doesn't process summer term graduations until august so my final transcript will not reach nsu until september. delia said this was not a problem.
does anyone else have the issue with the AP scores??????????/

LSU whips UCLA's ass. UF whips GM's ass. Brace yourself FL residents and alum. but, LSU whips UF's ass. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Did anyone watch this on pbs last night? http://www.thenewmedicine.org/
Integrative medicine makes a lot of sense but the climate of the health system does not allow for its practice. Interesting how the schools are fighting the hidden agenda of the last two years if med school.

I am still shown as OOS even though I sent way beyond what you needed to for in-state. the woman at the front desk said financial aid instate/out of state folders havent even been looked out yet, but will be in june. she said everyone is OOS as of now

thats what mine says too. i always thought it said that because the whole webstar thing is wack and "decision" is no longer there. hmmm...well i guess things should be straightened out in the summer.

btw, anyone officially sign up for that MedStart thing in July?

guys:
how long did it take for your fasfa to be processed by the school and your award info to show? thanks 🙂

I got an e-mail from financial aid on 3/21 saying that they had received my financial aid but could not continue to process my file becuase my file was incomplete, apparently I was missing a transcript. So I mailed it to them, and I am guessing that once this is in, they will process it and it will show up in webstar under the "financial aid" section.

If you are still showing up as needing to be "admitted to a degree program" in webstar your file may be incomplete. Also check your nova.edu e-mail for financial aid e-mails.

2005 is posted not 2006..

i have a question about those... so the total reported is 168, right, but the entering class size is a lot bigger than that! why/how the discrepancy?

I have not looked at this list....but is it possible that the difference between the two is the people who chose to go into traditional rotating years??

I dont think so..they include that in the list...

Those that graduated in 2005 started medical school in 2001. NSU has increased its class size twice since 2001, hence the discrepancy.

thanks for the clarification.

also, does anyone know if there are, in general, garage sales and furniture sales in the summer? or at least, really really cheap furniture outlets? i'm moving down from new york into an unfurnished apartment and don't have much $ to spend on new stuff...

can someone explain to me why 43 grads went into traditional rotating.

Were they undecided? Unable to land a residency they wanted?

Other reasons?
