NSU-COM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

Anyone who interviewed 10/27, is today the day we are supposed to hear a decision? I remember the admissions counselor saying we should hear something by 11/14.

I interviewed on 10/27 as well. She said we would hear the week of 11/14 by both email and regular mail. I have not yet heard anything either.

So anytime this week? Gonna be a long few days until Friday if we don't hear sooner. The suspense is killing me.

Interviewed on 11/3...no email yet but haven't checked my mail. Are 'alternate list' decisions also sent via email or just through mail? Getting worried....has anyone else got any decisions yet?

I'm an M1 at Nova, and I'm pretty sure I first found out I was accepted last year by logging in to webstar.

I remember neurotically checking webstar at least every other hour for a week -because it was always coupled with so much disappointment before finally seeing my status change. I received my acceptance notification via email after that, but it wasn't immediately after webstar was updated. It may have been the next day. I received my acceptance letter in the mail a few days later.

They do a great job keeping everyone informed, which is more impressive when you consider the fact that they told us they had 4,000 applicants last year.

I wish you the best of luck!

What did your status say? I do have the transcript and first & second deposit slots now, which were not there before but it doesn't directly state a decision anywhere.

im guessing now its the waitlist fight...

When was your interview date? I interviewed on Nov 1st, and I don't even have the deposit slots on my webstar. Is this a sign of waitlist/rejection that is to come?

There is no telling what the system does this year, but last year it was very obvious. My status changed in webstar from something like "interview" to "accepted".

I know that's not exactly what it said, but it was that obvious so please don't freak out, yet. I'm sorry if I caused you some stress. I know how difficult it is to wait for an answer.

I interviewed on 11/3...I don't know what those transcript and deposit slots mean so definitely don't take it as a rejection until you get the definitive decision.

Thanks for your response. Mine didn't even say 'interview' so I guess the system has changed this year or maybe I just didn't check webstar when I got the interview invite. Just have to wait it out I guess.

I am in the same boat. Been complete since the end of june actually. This is downright depressing.

What are your stats if you don't mind sharing. I just completed my secondary at the end of October and was told by the staff that it should take about three weeks to hear back.

I'm wondering the same thing. I submitted towards the end of October and was told 2-3 weeks, this thursday will be three weeks exactly. I submitted with a 3.62 sGPA and 3.64cGPA and two MCATs, a 27 being the higher of the two. I also submitted 4 LORs, one from an MD I've worked for for 5.5 years, one from a PHC, and two science faculty members. Hopefully hear something soon about an interview and hopefully it's not too late in the season to get accepted!

Received an email today from Anastasia informing me I was put on the alternate list. (3PM EST)
Interviewed 11/3
28, 3.5, OOS
Sucks...I loved the school after my interview and really saw myself going there.

Does anybody know anything about the alternate list?

3.8 cGPA, 3.61 sGPA and a 26. Firefighter/EMT for 4years and many top level recs from MD's , DO's and senior members of the drug discovery team at Moffitt Cancer Institute. I was hoping it wasn't to late as well. I am :xf: I don't want to apply twice!🙄

I also received an email stating I was on the alternate list. 3.6c, 3.8s, 28 and IS. Guess I did not do as well as I had thought on the interview...pretty disappointed.

I was also put on the 'alternate list' recently.

I had the Experience Day instead of the interview and loved the school (#1 choice). I thought the experience went very well so I was very surprised by the alternate decision. Can anyone else relate?

I was placed on the alternate list 3 weeks ago and today I was accepted! Keep your heads up! 🙂

For the people who have been accepted, have yall gotten a PIN yet? I emailed Anastasia about an address change, and she told me to go to Webstar to change it myself. I know you go into "enter secure area" to change it, but I can't figure out how to retrieve my pin. So when I call administration about my pin, they say I'm not fully admitted, which is weird considering I have the hard copy acceptance letter in hand...

TL;DR I don't have a pin. Do you?

I just got rejected to my number 4 school, and the top 3 are MD programs, so, ha, not having to much hope in them.

So Nova is next on the list!

Looks like I am heading back to So Flo next year.
Any other confirmed for NSU next year as M1s?

It is definitely a great school, good luck to all still waiting 🙂

I think i'll be getting my PIN today. i have been having address and mailing issues so they are faxing something to me at work this morning

Congrats! how long did it take you for your secondary to be considered complete? All my secondary materials were received two weeks ago so still waiting

Been complete since early August and haven't heard anything yet. I have called every 2-3 weeks to check the status, but the response stays the same. Anyone else can relate?

Anyone have any other suggestions? I live 10 minutes from campus, and work at the college next door. I am contemplating walking into the school to get a person-to-person app update, to see if that helps... 😕

Did ANYONE from 11/1 - 11/3 interview group get accepted?
I was also put on the alternate list. According to the posts on SDN,
seems like the school is putting over 90% if not all the applicants
at this time of the cycle no matter what their stats + interview were like.
An interesting way to cherry-pick the applicants...

I was an alternate for 2-3 wks as well and just received acceptance on Thurs. Immediately after getting my alternate letter, I started emailing Anastasia and others updating them on my focus to gain acceptance to NSU and on my research and volunteer and all of the other stuff we've all been doing for the last few years. And I'm guessing that had an impact. Oh, and that was recommended by people by buddies that are currently attending NSU-com and other medical places that were alternates as well. Hope this helps others.

OH!!!!! One more thing: my webstar never really changed or anything like except seeing some slots for basic academic requirements (bio, eng, phys) appear. But nothing about deposit or anything else. Again, this is just my experience. Pumped about going here in the Fall

That is encouraging! I've been on alternate for about a week and would love to get that acceptance. Glad to hear people are getting offers from the alternate list. Fingers crossed

Don't give up hope! If you wouldn't mind, could you explain how the Experience Day works? Are you actually doing a lab? I have one coming up in about two weeks. Thanks 🙂

It was a great day! We go through the regular tour of the school (meet the dean, meet with students) then we sat in on a lecture and had lunch. After lunch, we had the activities specific to the Experience Day. We worked with a Harvey simulator and then had a suturing lesson which was very fun. Good Luck!

I just sent in my deposit for Nova. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and whether they received a note or something from the admissions office in confirmation of the deposit. I paid with a card online and received a receipt from their online store, but I was hoping for something from the admissions office in the next day or so, since this is kind of a big deal and all...

all i received was an email confirmation as well.. they had something down as "will call" so maybe we'll get a call from admissions and only then will it show up on webstar? i have no idea but it hasn't shown up on my credit card statement yet

When did you send yours in? I was going to give them a few days and then call them. Idk my PIN for webstar, so maybe I should look into getting that. "Will call" I believe refers to the term used for when you buy tickets to an event and pick them up at the box office beforehand (baseball game, concert etc). They're just using as a sorting category to let them know that they don't have to ship us anything.

I was told we have to send in 1st, 2nd deposit, and official transcript to get a PIN

Silly question --- does anyone know how to send in the 1st deposit??

Hey guys...congrats on those who received the admission notices to the MBS Program. Yes it is very competitive your first semester. It is stressful, to keep your grades at an 80 or better; but it is so 'do-able.' If you're accepted, trust yourself...administration goes above and beyond to choose adequate candidates for their program.

I finished my first semester with 90's and high 80's back in '05, and left for family issues. I am a Firefighter, and have been since...but I have been getting the itch to go back to Med School. Used to talk a lot to Dr. Dribin, but it's been years now. Just wondering if any of you know (especially those who are in, and may ask this question), if you took a leave of absence from the program, since '05 with grades above 80, and wanted to go back and finish your 2nd semester...would it be possible? Also, if possible and grades 2nd semester above 80's in this case, would the seat for Med School still be reserved for the individual in this case?

Please reply with any info on this matter. Thanks

I officially declined my acceptance here today so that should open a spot for an alternate lister 🙂
