Did you have the spots on your application status check for the deposits? Hang in there! I am still waiting to hear about my acceptance/rejection/alternate list notification. 🙁

accepted today! through the mail and got the e-mail. interviewed 10/20! couldn't be happier 😀

anyone interview on 10/18 and not receive an email? I received nothing so far, no emails, no letters.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!=))) woooopiiee =)))!!!!

CHECK your junk mail. Mine somehow got in there...

My interview was super weird.
One interviewer was super stone faced, even when I mentioned my most significant accomplishments, it seemed that he didn't even blink an eye. It was pretty draining to have your positive energy kinda sucked away, like a black hole so to speak. I'm glad that
and the other interviewer just smiled the whole time, which is equally poker faced. Anyway...so relieved of the waiting game is finally over!!

Everyone said that NSU's interview's relaxed..but I stumbled on the 1st question: tell us something that's not in your file (read: impress us with something we don't know already from your application). Right before our interview, the admissions coordinator gave us one firm reminder: no rehearsed answers! Well...for someone who's not great at phrasing things out in a persuasive/cohesive way on the spot, I had prepared/rehearsed a "tell me about yourself" response. I had to really work my way to twist that to fit the question: things about my background, where I'm from. I lived in a few different places in my life, so it showed adaptability to different situations. When I caught myself saying stuff that I already put in the application, then I had to stop in a less than elegant way. Retrospectively, it wasn't the best answer..but it wasn't totally bad either. I think the question can really be thought of as "what else do you want to tell us"...which is a question that I had prepared, but I always thought that it would come at a later time in the interview, when I had already gave them a basis of my profile. Moral of the story, as one of my med school friends told me: over-prepare/rehearse examples, especially ones that you can answer multiple answers with. Don't over-rehearse actual responses (although for me..knowing what to say for bread & butter questions helped a ton.)

Anyway, I think having a positive and resilient attitude is the most important thing. Even if the first question throws you off the track..just CALM DOWN (slow down the pace you're talking and lower your pitch by half or a whole octave) and keep smiling. Hopefully, you'll have a good story to tell at the end of the day.

Got the Alternate letter. Interviewed 10/13.

how long do NSU students have to prepare for their boards? I'm a Canadian, so writing the STEPS is needed.

Also, what kind of preparation does the school give? a Kaplan course included?.

Thanks!!

That's the one closest to Nova right? There is a Waffle place/diner literally NEXT door..even though the receptionist didn't tell me so when I asked. She offered to have someone drive me to some place (prob their way of getting more tips..?)...but then I saw the waffle place through my windows and went there. It's really homie, decent food + price. Kinda makes me wanna go back there to try their specialty waffle sometimes, lol.

optoed, what school do you go to in canada?

edit: I go to mac

Hey guys,

Does anyone know how good the rotation sites for Nova are?

These are in terms of the core rotation at ACGME (i.e. MD sites), sites that have dual-accredited programs (AOA/ACGME) during 3rd/4th year.

I've heard good things from graduates, but if someone going through the rotation right now can expand on this, it would be really helpful!!

I've also heard that the M1&M2 curriculum is weaker compare to some other schools- in terms of quality of teaching and lack of uniformity in what's being taught & what's tested. From what I understood, the frustration is found by a large number of the class. I was wondering if someone can confirm this/share their experience.

NSU is my top choice..but having heard feedback about the curriculum, I'm having second thoughts on if good rotations really outweight a solid M1/M2 curriculum that prepares you well for the boards.

Thx in advance for sharing!!

I will be giving up my acceptance very soon, so hopefully one of you awesome people who are still waiting will get it! GOOD LUCK to those waiting, and CONGRATS to those accepted! NSU is beautiful 🙂

Good call man. The place was chill and the prices were fair.

=), I was quite relieved to not have to go out again for food ..after a long day of travelling & having settling down at the hotel.

I am a 2nd year at NSU so I'll try and throw my opinion out there. First off, no school is going to automatically make you do well on boards. It is up to you as a student to take it upon yourself to learn. Obviously, I am sure you already know this...but, that being said, NSU gives you all the opportunities to do well on boards. I thought the curriculum is really good at NSU, with the exception of biochem which is not taught well at all (in my opinion). However, the anatomy, physio, histology, OPP, etc are all top notch. They provide you with all of your notes which are sufficient to pull off A's in the class without any/much outside resources...the only resources I ever used was google/wikipedia on very rare occasions.

Second year, you are provided all the notes, along with a board review class once a week. They are also buying our entire class the "doctors in training" board review class...as well as providing us with Kaplan's USMLE board review series. So, all in all...NSU does provide you all the opportunities to do well on boards.

In my opinion, the classes provided at NSU are really good. Granted, some classes have professors that aren't as good as the others...but you will have those professors at every school. I would also say that 95% of the professors are extremely supportive and willing to help you when you come to their office (the only professors that I can think of who are jerks, are ones that are part of the Medical Sciences college that teach first year classes...all the doctors/professors that lecture during 2nd year are up and beyond supportive and willing to help whenever possible...always encouraging us to email/call them on their personal emails/cell phones to set up times to come in and shadow them or just meet with them to talk about anything). They never make you feel uncomfortable approaching them.

As far as the rotations, I can not comment on them because I have not been a part of that yet. However, I have heard that all of our rotation sites are really good and everyone enjoys the learning experience a lot. I am excited to get to 3rd year. Hopefully someone else can chime in on their experiences with NSU rotations during 3rd/4th year.

In regards to you saying that most of the class feels that they are not tested on what is taught...I disagree to a certain extent. There might be a few questions on an exam that require you to "think outside the box" and may not have been directly covered in a class, but requires you to actually think and not just regurgitate some of the massive amount of information you just memorized...but it all relates to what was taught in one way or another. And if it is a question that is not fair to the class because 80% of the class got the question wrong, they throw the question out so it doesn't hurt anyone's grade.

But like I said, it is up to you to do well...not the professors or school. NSU provides you with everything to do well. I am not a genius or anything, but I work hard and study a lot...and I also do well to show for it.

Good luck with your decision. NSU is a great school...and will provide you with all the opportunities you need to take advantage of and excel with whatever you want to do. The group of students they select here at NSU is great also. Our class is very supportive of one another, as is the M1 class this year. We are all here to help one another, and it is not a competitive atmosphere at all. But one thing to keep in mind when talking to students from different schools is that it depends on when you catch them. If you catch one of us right before an exam, or under some other stressful situation, we are more likely to take our stress out on the school and relay that vibe to you. Many students might feel that the curriculum sucks or whatever because they just took an exam and didn't do as well as they wanted. We all like to bitch about stuff whenever we can...haha. Good luck again with your decision.

Can any of the fellow applicants help me out?
I'm very confused in terms of the NSU ID, PIN, etc. When I go to webstar.nova.edu, I am directed to a list of menus. Here, I'm assuming that we should go to "Enter Secure Area" tab to check our final decision status.
But somehow, it doesn't work when I try to log in using my N###### id and my PIN. But when I use the "Admissions" tab on the menu, I type in what's called the "Login ID" and PIN, and this works. So...are those two tabs asking for the same PIN? Also, user ID is the NSU ID that starts with a capital "N"...right?

I know this is a dumb question, but I'm very lost...and I need to be checking my status for the next several days.
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone- this is my 1st post to this thread...I'm just curious what people's stats are that have recently been accepted? (If you don't mind sharing, thankss!) My app wasn't complete until early October, so I'm hoping I'll hear about an interview soon 🙂

Interviewed in early September though, I'm pretty sure the bar has been raised since then!

you need to sign into "admissions" not "enter secure area". i think the "enter secure area" is for when we matriculate?

Hand in there... Last year I interviewed in January and the class was half full, and they were accepting 75percent of the people who were interviewing.

ok, still no word here for the 10/18 interview. should i call? should i wait?

I've been complete since mid august 🙁 I've emailed them several times and they have told me every time that I am still under review. This cannot be true...right?

Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to share this information!! This is extremely encouraging and informative.

If any other current student could share your experience about the curriculum at NSU, it would be really appreciated. It is one of my biggest concern that curriculum is a weaker area of the school, but I'm also aware that the administration has worked on improving it.

Hey thanks a lot zoomzoom, I called the help desk this morning and they also told me the samet hing.

Also, I received a random email from NSU titled "NSU Documents Received" 2 days after my 11/1 interview...and the names of the documents received are "DRESSC" and "CCONDU." Anyone know what these documents are? Am I even supposed to be getting this email at this time?
I'm starting to get a lil anxious..

Do you know the maximum amount of LORs we can submit? Thanks!

As a current M1, I can't really say anything new that Booster didn't cover (and I'm obviously only talking about the first three months of classes). In my experience, there are definitely good and not-as-good teachers, but that's not that surprising to anyone who's been in school. It also depends who you ask - some people prefer different styles of teaching. Almost all of the professors so far have been really supportive, willing to spend the extra time with students who bother to ask for their help. What we've been tested on is definitely available in the notes - whether you had time to study it or were able to understand it was really what made the difference on the tests. I don't really have much idea how we'll we're being prepared for boards, but I know that so far most of the basic science stuff that I haven't learned (or haven't retained) is more a function of me cramming as opposed to a curriculum issue.

I've noticed that people tend to generalize when they're complaining - 'everybody hates this professor' or 'nobody did well on that test' or 'the whole class feels like this...' and those statements are mostly false or highly exaggerated.

Definitely also want to second the above that one, our class is ridiculously helpful in giving each other answers to study questions, mnemonics, information from the professors, etc., and the M2s are as well. And two, it really does depend when you're talking to someone. If you had talked to many of the people in my class on, say, Tuesday...probably not the best impression...

This is awesome!! Thanks for confirming. My interest in NSU just went like a concave parabola, lol..going up again!

Yea, no problem. I think everyone who has interviewed gets that email. Those are the forms they had you sign when the day first started.

Alright, I just called the admission department and was told that 3 letters are required including 2 from science professors and 1 from liberal arts professor or pre-med committee or physician. I was told that it is acceptable to send more than than also.
