NSUCOM Class of 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I didn't get any information about the academic societies. Did you get an email? I saw something in the personal announcements section that it would be added to my groups page and it isn't. Anyone know?

Yea, I got an email about it. I went online to check the society roster to see if you were on it and you're in "Still" with me!!

Apparently we're awesome, so says singinfifi. 🙂

Sharklink is crap. Lets see how much information they can stuff into 50 boxes per page.

I agree. But they just implemented SharkLink this past year. So maybe they'll do a makeover of it along with the new website which gets launched March 30th. :xf:

Hey guys 🙂 I hear y'all got your societies. For those of you who are in "Still" that's my society 😎 we're pretty awesome.

Some socieities are more active then others. I ... think? I'm president of Still next year...we're kind of changing how things got run, so I'm not actually sure...I should probably ask someone about that...maybe? huh.

Anyway, you'll get society peer mentors (3 of them I believe, we don't know who these people are yet, they've been chosen but we haven't been informed yet). And there are society activities, and even a competition that goes on between the different societies.

What you'll notice mostly about your societies is the schedule. 1/2 the societies are A and half are in B 🙂

There's really more too it...I just can't think straight at the moment.
They decided them on Friday. And yes, things are structured differently for this upcoming year.

I really hope I got picked to be a mentor.
In other news, bacT currently has me feeling like this:
:boom:

So for you guys that are coming into Nova, you should know how much HOD's class has done for you (trust me, you won't even know how good you have it). One of the GREAT things about NSU is that they're actaully pretty good about listening to students. Because of HOD's class, we got a MUCH better finals schedule last semester AND we've got a way better testing schedule for microbio.

Yeah, micro is a piece of work. Being a mentor this year was one of the highlights. I hope you become a mentor also because you have lots of give. 🙂

I'm going to Nova for med school. How ****ing cool is that?

It's a nice feeling, isn't it?

...actually, right now, it's not so hot. but thats just because I have class in 3 hours...and i'm still awake. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

BUT! on the upside, I have finished my bacteriology packet.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssss. 👍

You put yourself in a good place. Congrats on finishing the packet. After BacT, go relax!

Oh man. After BacT, my brain is CHECKING OUT. I missed class this morning (whoops. virology and physio...) but I needed the sleep. I was STILL awake at 7:30 when my alarm went off.

So now, I'm going to sit down and type up all the stupid little stories I wrote for BacT.

...I dunno if I can look at Dr. Venk with a straight face anymore. It's unfortunate that when I think of "vancomyocin" his name is the first thing to come to mind...now everytime I see him I picture him with a sword, fighting the evil MRSA. and fighting the evil Enterococcus (and losing! oh noes!)😱

Hey,

So the letter of acceptance says that we need to submit our transcripts 90 days from the date of registration. When is the date of registration?

Thanks

Just bumping this question because I noticed it was never answered. When is 90 days from? It is still acceptable to send in transcripts after the offical M1 start date? Thanks for your responses.

Does anyone know if Silvagni is a good group?
I don't think there's such a thing as a good group or bad group. Its what you make of it. They're not gangs...

Students are put into society in an attempt to have a diverse group of people (different locales, education, experiences).

HOD's just bitter b/c he's not in still, with all the cool kids. 😛

Kidding. He's absolutely right, there are no "good groups" or"bad groups" it's just another way to get to know a diverse group of people. If you don't care for the people in your society (for whatever reason) you don't HAVE to hang out with them or anything. It's not like we have assigned seating in lecture (except for orientation, where you sit by society, and white coat - same deal).

I'm so excited to meet you guys! 🙂

did anyone else get that email from ellen talking about deferring a year due to the "economic crisis"....is anyone on here actually thinking of doing this. Personally I figure the sooner I get my medical education done the better.

That makes absolutely no sense, why would graduates want to go into a job market where there are no jobs to make money.....i dont see why they would ask there students they accepted to defer for a year, i thought it was looked down upon unless you had medical issues

People defer for a lot of different reasons. Personally, I think it is a cool idea because I know that I am working right now and it would nice to save money for a year. But, I am going to go ahead and go. It would nice to work a year knowing that you are in somewhere and instead of dropping all that money on going to interviews and such, you could just save and relax knowing that you are in. People with families especially may enjoy sometime to sell their homes if they have them.

HAHA, Dr. Itor swings and misses!

Just kidding, we're all friendly here. :welcome:

I am not friendly. I might put you in a headlock the first time we meet. Be prepared for a swirly.

Man, I feel bad for all you Still people now. You are in trouble.

Hey guys, just curious as to what people think their living arrangement will be. Are most people planning on having roommates, or studios or what? Thanks in advance.

I just plan on living in my yacht and commuting to school...

I appreciate sarcasm as much as the next guy...thanks for that...but seriously.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the site either. They need to give it some life.

Wilson - I'm planning on renting an apartment with my girlfriend near the campus. 2/2 style hopefully.

Living with my husband. Hopefully at lakepointe of jacaranda. Really nice 2/2s and they have some good deals on rent. Can't wait to move!

is anyone else planning to live near las olas in downtown fort lauderdale?

I want my FinAid info already!

I know...I'm getting anxious about fin aid stuff too, but I'm just gonna stop worrying and wait like a good little student.......

I think grad apartments are for me = no moving furniture 🙂

And I like the new website, except the health professional student's look way to happy to be med students....they must be in some other program

alright fine, shaq is subleasing his place out to me in south beach

I like your style, Dude.

as for living goes, i'll be leasing the Nova's helipad for my place of residence during my time at NSUCOM...naturally that will just be to impress the babes...when i'm not at the helipad, i think i'll be trying to find a roommate near school or a studio in one of the places across the street. i'm flying down june 4-7 to look for places. anyone interested in a roommate lemme know...for the apt, not the helipad...

Warning: these are DORMS. With DORM rules (like, limits on the number of over night guests you can have in a semester)

Also: most of us are pretty happy, honestly 🙂

Fully furnished, shuttle service and cable, air conditioning, laundry, water, gas, electricity included...I'm moving from California. I think I can handle one year.

There are lots of places that include nearly all of that except for shuttle service. If anything, it is one or two extra pieces of paper that you can do electronically usually. Not a big deal. I have a hard time finding unfurnished places lately.

I really have not heard of one person that has truly enjoyed living there. Any place that has curfews and doesn't let you do grown up stuff when you went is off limits to me. 😉

Ditto 👍

except for the curfews...really? I thought they were just quiet hours, which is honestly probably a good thing.

Where? I haven't been able to find any furnished places by campus.
