no they don't. i think you can check on the website? be sure you have it in before the interview because they won't render a decision until they receive it.

I got a document received email for both my recommendation and sig page;
 
hmm thanks guys! It's weird. My status page online doesnt really say anything other than the fact that I filled out my application, although I received my signature confirmation last week. Maybe I will give them a call...😕

Yeah Id call Vicky and see whats up. Maybe its not processed yet. ... atleast i'm hoping thats the status of my committee letter 🙄

Mine didnt really say anything either I dont think. The webstar wasn't too helpful.

who's vicky, why is she so famous in this forum and how do i reach her?
 
I dont think vicky works in the admissions office at NSU anymore... either she is in another department, got promoted, or is no longer at the school....she was the admissions coordinator ( i think)......

really? She was there during my interview in October.
 
The only thing my webstar thingy says is that I submitted my application. But I've called a bunch of times and they say my application is complete even though webstar does not reflect this. Why are they taking to long to give me an interview decision?????? I have been complete for so long 🙁

yeah and she was there when i interviewed in november... but i called like 2 weeks ago and the lady that picked up the phone said that vicky is not their anymore....
 
I met Vicky last week on my interview day. It seems she's around, but no longer working in admissions. Though, she was the one who gave me an interview invite via e-mail.

She still works at NSUCOM and shes the one that has kept me up to speed on the processing of my secondary stuff and my interview invite ... she may not be directly with admissions (i dont know for sure either way), but shes been my go-to-person, very sweet and understanding lady .. also, almost always available!
 
people have told me that i'm weird to be excited to go to nsu for an interview since i got into dartmouth. this boy just wants to surf and from what i've seen nsu is gorgeous!

Well, if it were me, I'd definitely take Tufts or Dartmouth over NSU. My co-worker is applying to those 2 places, along with GW. I hope he gets into one of those schools so that he will decline a possible acceptance to Univ. of Alabama School of Medicine, because that is my #1 option since its in-state. I dont have the MCAT score to consider those northern schools, although if I did, I'd apply there. NSU I really like because I have a friend there and shes told me great things about the school, but its pricey like hell, including living :scared: ... thus, its my #3 school option overall, behind my 2 state schools. I am curious about PCOM-Ga, but I get the feeling NSU may be a better fit for me ... we'll see, I'll get the chance to evaluate when I go for interviews.

so i just called NSU and they said they're not allowed to give out information on the application status through the phone or email (although they do state it clearly on their website that if we have questions about our application status, to give them a call) ANYWHOO....they have my recommendations....so i guess it goes back to the waiting to hear from schools....i REALLY hate this part of the admission cycle!!! :meanie:

Yes, they do! If you haven't received it, odds are they have not gotten them. If they were sent through virtualevals or interfolio, like my case, then they are really ******ed about getting them (maybe cuz it's their first year using it). Call Linda Ferris, she is in charge of the LOR's and confirm.

NSU is tied for #1 in my book, mainly cuz it is so close to home and has a great program. Many of the doctors in my community have graduated from there and are very successful in a wide array of specialties. The only school that would drive me away from NSU would be GW, cuz I simply loved it when I was there. The only downside is the insane tuition compared to NSU! That is why both are tied. From my experience, and that of others I've spoken with, schools in your state are usually the best buy, except of course if you are interested in an out-of-state school that far exceeds the opportunities available in in-state schools.

Well, its instate for you. I'm not a FL resident, so dishing out 32K+ per year isnt the best. For you, its more like 26K'ish ... if I'm gonna pay that much for outta state and had the chance to go to Tufts, GW, or Dartmouth ... Im just saying I'd pick either one over NSU. If selected, I'd pick Univ. of Alabama School of Medicine over ALL of them because of the fact id only be paying 11K per yr and its one of the top allo med schools in the nation (and quite underrated), along with great opportunities in academia due to the enormous amount received in grant money thru the NIH, NSF, etc.

In addition, since GW, Dartmouth, and Tufts are all MD medical schools, you wouldnt have to take 2 step exams to open up the allo resids ... and, for the most highly competitive allo resid slots, it'd be a little easier for the med student to attain it rather than having to go thru the BS of not being accepted to a certain residency (despite similar class ranks and board results) just because you were a DO med student .. it's already hard enough in general to get into the tough/competitive resid slots to begin with, no need to put yourself at a slight "disadvantage" in that manner .. and theres no need to flame, because this is what the consensus here appear to agree with ...

MD vs DO student, both similar ranks and similar board scores ... the allo resid hospital or w/e would likely prefer taking the MD student ... although DO students have been selected before, it is tougher ...

Im in no way negating DO, trust me, im not ... I'm just saying that if I got into an MD school (especially in-state), I wouldnt go DO. I know some of you guys/gals would do the same.

On the other hand, I really am excited about the NSU interview and believe it is a great school, just like I said .. pricey like HELL! It is my #1 DO option and im really wanting to go there despite the expensive school and expensive cost of living ... but, all's good in the name of medical school.
 
I dont think the COL is THAT high. I mean I come from a state(CT) where COL is high anyway, so maybe that is why I am not that impressed.

Well, if you ask anyone, South FL COL is pretty damn high! Much higher than Alabama too.

remember that NSU is private so if comparing with a state school then there is definitely a lot of discrepancy

definitely .. and that is half my point. also, the COL (cost of living) must be taken into account too. It easily makes it cost even more attending NSU.

Im very excited about my prospects of attending NSU, however, I'm also quite scared about the massive debt I could compile while attending NSU :scared:

Inviz- i live in miami, ive lived here most of my life. Youll clearly feel the col when it comes to apt renting and maintenance fees.

IE, you could get an avg sized house in smaller cities for about 150-200 thousand while here youre probably looking at atleast double that.

You get that email for any letter, they don't specify who its from.

can you pay your deposit with Visa or do you have to pay cash at NSU?
 
I interviewed at NSUCOM the week before Thanksgiving and my application wasn't complete at the time. In fact, it wasn't complete until early last week. And then I got the best phone call of my life on Friday afternoon... I got in 😀. It was my first interview and it's my first acceptance, so we'll so how things go with the rest of the schools, but I'm very excited! I absolutely loved NSUCOM and would be very happy there!
