Number of dependents on the AMCAS should be same as Tax form always?

My aunt and uncle lost their jobs and, with my 2 cousins, have been living with me for the past three months. I have been supporting 4 dependents for the past 3 months and will do so for at least a year.

I put 0 on my list of dependents on my tax form, but my situation has obviously changed since then. Should I list 4 dependents on my AMCAS? Or should it just mirror my 0 on the tax form?

I'd put 0. I don't think adults can even qualify as dependents even if they are dependent on your income.

I take it you currently have a job. Have you updated your tax form at your job to claim yourself and the 4 of them? If not, then they are not your dependents. But somehow I think you might give you a one-up in admissions, doubt it will though. If you don't claim them legally, don't list it on amcas.

They can under head of household rules. That gets into some weird tax law territory, though. For something meant to be straightforward like the AMCAS application, I would stick with 1 (assuming you claim yourself when you file and aren't claimed under your parents). FWIW, what you file on your W-2 has nothing to do with how many dependents you have. A large portion of the population under-claims on the W-2 to reduce the chance of having a tax bill due and increase the chance getting a refund come April. Whatever you filed on your 1040 last year would be the safest option unless you got married/had a child since then.
