I've heard EM interviews typically go out later than other specialties and wonder how true that is. I'd also like to know where I stand relative to others.

So post number of EM interview offers thus far, and your statistics if you want.

10 offers so far, including my home program and away rotation program; all Midwest programs of varying reputations/perceived levels of competitiveness

~40 apps sent 9/15; first offer 9/25
1 SLOR, 2 non-EM LOR (one more SLOR, this week hopefully)
Step 1 240s, CK 220s, CS pending
GPA/Rank in top quarter of class, Midwest program

Typically, if you're asking the same of others, you should list your offers and stats.

8 offers, applied to ~40 programs. Step 1 ~240, CK ~250, CS pass.

35 programs, 9 offers. 260s, 260s, mid-tier.

I also only have 2 total letters (SLOE and one EM letter, 2nd SLOE pending).

Surprised because I got the big fat silent rejection from several places I thought would at least interview me, but that just goes to show you how random the process is. I'm super excited about the places that do love me, at least

Applied to 46 (way too many) and have gotten 17 interview invites so far.
A nice mix of competitive and not-so competitive programs.
Plan on attending 12-15 interviews.

240's step 1
250's step 2
Passed CS

Submitted 15 minutes after the application opened with 1 SLOE and 2 regular letters. Added 4th letter (away rotation SLOE) on 9/30, the day before Dean's letters were released.
Top 1/3 of my class.
Not AOA.
Not at a top tier med school.
No research.

I wasn't expecting this many invites, but I think that having a "complete" application on submission day was crucial.

How do you know you've gotten "silent rejections" already...this early in the cycle? 😕

Applied to 30, top heavy
6 invites so far

Step 1 >265
Step 2 pending
.
True pass/fail program
Top 15 med school

I have one EM LOR and one non-EM LOR with no SLOEs in yet. I think that being incomplete has hurt me early in the invite season.

Why does this deserve its own thread?

Do we have a mod that can dump this into the Residency Cycle thread?

We should definitely dump all the threads in this subforum into a single thread because they have to do with emergency medicine

That is your suggestion, not mine.

The current EM residency cycle has a dedicated thread. There is no reason to start new threads for questions already or easily discussed in the dedicated thread.

One of these things is not like the others....

Applied to 40 programs (too many) (mostly regional to Texas)
6 Interviews
Step 1 <220 (if I remember right)
Step 2 >235
CS - Pending (man it would suck to fail)
Just updated ERAS with my final LOR (SLOE) 45 seconds ago.

Non-trad prior career

God forbid we have a single thread with a narrow topic instead of searching through a multi page monster. We should abolish chapters in books. That way all the information can be in one confluent section!

I think this was huge this season. My app is incomplete and I think that's a big reason why some places tabled my app.

One of the programs I applied to filled all their interview spots already, and I believe but have not confirmed that another has as well. Granted, people could cancel or they could open more spots -- but right now I'm considering those rejections.

Sorry, I don't have any insider info -- just assumptions like everyone else.

Yes, God forbid someone has to search a 7 page thread.

This thread received multiple responses in a short time period. Perhaps the question posed in the larger thread would still have received responses in a similarly short period, eliminating the need for searching.

well this thread is making me feel like crap.

2 interviews
230's/240's
applied ~60 programs
DO

Really don't know what to make of this thread other than I like the fact that it's NOT part of the other thread. I will say it's a bit perplexing to read some of the numbers... seems to be little rhyme or reason to the number of offers people have. Some with low numbers beating those with higher numbers, some with 1 letter beating those with 3 or 4 letters... just very little consistency but I guess that's what this is all about. As for me...

3 invites (2 from places I rotated)
<280 Step 1
<280 Step 2
(now how much less is really the question, lol )
non-traditional with previous medical career and I bet I applied to more places than 95% of people, lol!

I am at 0/43 for interviews

240+ step 1/CK&CS in november. I have read my MSPE and it's all positive. 1 SLOE from an away (HP) and 1 individual EM LOR uploaded since 9/13. I submitted my ERAS on 9/17.

Applied to all regions besides east coast. I think a mix of "comeptitive" and "not so competitive".

Seeing a lot of people with similar numbers with a lot more interviews (and from many places I applied to) I am a little concerned. Beyond the standard "it's early, don't worry" type comments I would really appreciate if someone would indulge me and give their thoughts on the following:

-I just realized I did not finish my NRMP registration; I was told the deadline was 11/30 for "early" registration so I procrastinated cause I didn't think it would affect my app. Was I wrong about that?

-I double checked my email on ERAS and it was correct. Should I inquire about any technical errors or something?

-I don't think my 2 LORs would have anything negative, but should I contact my home program PD and just ask him to review my app and see if there is anything wrong?

Thank you for any comments/advice

You only have 2 LORs? That's your problem. Your app is incomplete. Throw up another LOR, IM, Surg, OB, Whatever...just get it up there.

DO school, P/F
Got a couple of letters for being in top 10% of class
Decent extracurriculars, volunteer work
Non-trad
no research

230's step I/II
3 SLOE's, 1 surgery letter, all in as of 10/4

40 ACGME apps
5 invites (1 from away rotation)

Applied all over the place, but was careful to weed out DO unfriendly places before submitting. Honored away rotations but I'm worried a pass on my home EM rotation will hurt. (smallish DO shop but they basically don't give honors, and no high pass at my school).

Thanks for the reply.

I have a home SLOR coming in anyday now.

If that is the issue though then how is there many posters above with 2 total letters and w/ similar stats who got interviews?

Hey, why don't you complain about it some more?

DO, applying to 25 programs, AOA only.
7 invites, including one courtesy interview at my current audition.

516/609, bottom quartile class rank.
Lots of 'volunteer' experiences including leadership, no research.
Two strong non-SLOE letters, one peds letter.
Kick-ass personality and an incredibly sexy photo on ERAS

Doing better than I anticipated, actually...

DO school.
Repeated 2nd year.
Step 1: 214/506
Step 2: 217/440.

2 EM letters (not sure if SLORs) from home, 1 non-EM letter (used for DO only). Currently on 1 away rotation (DO), one more scheduled (MD).

89 applications (Pan applied DO)

2 invites, both DO. One came today.

DO student, 240+ step I, 260+ step 2, 1 IM LOR, 1 EM LOR, 2 SLOE
Applied to 61 programs, 4 ACGME interviews and 2 AOA interviews so far plus 2 courtesy interviews at places I rotated
Had my app entirely complete (was only waiting on 1 SLOE) on 10/04
Kind of frustrated that I haven't had more offers since lots of the places I applied are handing them out to others on here.

Why is everyone so worked up over this interview issue? You have 8 interviews with just a few weeks in! Places you got an invite from, others are waiting for an invite and vice versa. Programs probably look at the best candidates first, i.e. --best fit not for them. Having boards >260 and 4 sloe's wont do much if a PD thinks you might not be a good fit. So relax everyone, drink some margaritas. Stop this negativity and raising each others anxiety. Monkey see monkey do, monkey pee all over you.

They do IV further along. I had 5 EM , IV's last year in Jan. I settled for GS programs and ranked them higher but the EM iv's were tougher. I used a group called Residents Medical for IV prep, they had a current PD interview prep me. It was pretty cool and it helped . I know there are other prep places out there but this one had the PD... Good luck EM is good

I agree with this except one aspect... SEVERAL places in our thread actually are either full, almost full, or getting low on dates and it doesn't seem like may people have gotten invites yet. It's just crazy to think there are a number of places that are off the table already due to being full and the best you can hope for is cancellations or waitlist spots. That's the frustrating part.

Sure, but how would they possibly determine if you're a good fit without actually meeting you? My understanding is they offer based on stats and then determine fit at the interview. You're right to recommend some relaxation though. But I think we're all responsible for our own anxiety induced by comparison to others.

11 offers so far. Mostly south and south east. One was a courtesy interview following rotation. Applied to 50 programs (probably a tad overkill).

Step 1: 217
Step 2: 262
All P and one HP during third year. Pretty average student otherwise. Mid tier MD school.

The SLOEs, the CV that makes you unique. I am not going to add MSPE bc every dean will sell their student to programs. You look at programs that get 800-1000 apps. Interviews about a 100. Not everyone with boards >260 is going to get an interview and not everyone with a below average score is going go get looked over automatically. The CV and letters shine some light into that. Is this person like us? Will they fit here .... Are they similar to people that we like? Things of that nature. And yes you are right it's good to be anxious a bit but look at the other side ... My point is look at the fact that you have 8 interviews. Only a few more and you are on your way to having a very high likelihood of matching ie hitting that magic number of interviews. Some places are full some haven't even started offering any interviews. Chill lil homie

I wasn't going to add to this post since I'm not a student/resident looking for a position. Speaking from the program perspective, we are looking at the overall package. USMLE scores of greater than 240 are always a perk, but it's not a deal breaker for us. We look at board scores, IM/EM/Surg/Peds grades and whether you H/HP/P, SLOE's for sure and we like to see at least 2 with one being from your home institution. We also look at your interests, any awards you might have, etc. I also like that my PD likes when he see's something in a packet that is interesting and makes the applicant stand out. That doesn't mean AOA either.

From the program side, we have to make a decision who to interview on whether we not only think they may seriously consider us, but whether they'd be a good fit for the temperature of our program and make a real contribution.

Don't stress, offers will come and by the time you're all done with interviews you'll wonder why you worried so much because you'll be exhausted from traveling so much... and too broke to care!

Best wishes to you all during this busy interview season.:biglove::banana::biglove::banana::biglove:

^Suuuuuure wish I knew which program you were at 🙂 I like the philosophy and wish more had the same.

One thing to consider though is the wave of cancellations that will come later in the season. Even if a program is full now doesn't mean they will still be full in a month.

I do want a job/training program slightly more than I care about being a program's silver medal, so I will gladly take the second class interviews.

Haha I hear ya.

Actually I dont think it comes down to silver medal. Programs are getting SO many apps these days how could they possibly interview all the decent candidates? There just isn't enough room for everyone so second string isn't necessarily second string.

Silver medal? Heck, I'd be happy to be some program's booby prize.

I am wondering if I should send out more applications.
Step 1 >270
Step 2 pending
Top 15, p/f school
Only two LORs in and still waiting on first SLOE
I applied to 27 programs and have only received 6 invites. I am concerned because the great majority of programs to which I applied have already begun to hand out invites and some are already full. I am unaware of any red flags in my application. Is it likely the absence of a SLOE? Am I just being paranoid or should I be concerned? Thanks.

The most likely explanation for this is that you only have two LORs in, compounded with the lack of a SLOE. With only two LORs, your app is sitting in the incomplete stack for most programs, so many of them likely have not even looked at it yet.

Should your SLOE be in soon?

Obviously it is rude to just withdraw from programs on ERAS without emailing them, but once one emails the coordinator to withdraw, is it then the correct thing to do to officially withdraw on ERAS?

Ahh completely forgot about withdrawing on ERAS. I just emailed the program
