Hi everyone!

I'm a junior applying this coming cycle. I was wondering how many schools you guys applied to/how many you would recommend. I really don't want to spend too much of my parents' money, but I also want to make sure I don't miss out by applying to too few schools. I've seen people apply to 20+ and I feel like that's insane! Would 10 (or less??) be enough?

My stats:
3.70 oGPA, 3.54 sGPA, 3.66 BCP (hopefully all this won't change too much after this semester)
DAT: 26 AA, 26 TS, 26 PAT
Have 40 shadowing hours so far, planning on doing 100+ by application time
Been working in the same lab for over a year

Thanks!

With your DAT and GPA I'd say no more than 10-12. Make sure you have at least 100 hours of shadowing. Do you have any other ECs besides research? Schools really value them.

I'm on the board of 2 clubs on campus, and I used to tutor inner city kids + currently am a Big Sister through Big Sisters Big Brothers!

10-12 doesn't sound too bad. Thanks for the input 🙂

I agree, no more than 10 is enough. Most that apply to more than 20, myself included, do so because we have one or more unattractive aspect(s) on our app/stats.

The average is 10. Honestly I'd say with your stats you might be wasting you money if you go over 6. 10 would be the absolute most though. What is your state of residence? For what it's worth I applied to 3 schools and got into 2. I was originally only planning to apply to 2 but added that 3rd one a bit later (which I knew I probably wouldn't get into).

I applied to 6 and have gotten into 2 and wait listed at another so far with a similar gpa but average dat (20AA). Just make sure the ones you apply to are in state or accept a decent amount of out of state applicants. Many people applying to 20+ schools don't realize that some they applied to mainly only take in state students so it is almost a waste of money. You shouldn't have a problem getting in with your stats if applying to 10 or less schools as long as you choose wisely.

I also would keep your applications to no more than 10, but I would make sure that they are appropriate applications, meaning, don't apply to out of state schools that only take in-state applicants, etc. If you were a Texas resident, I'd probably suggest only applying to the Texas schools even.
