Hello,
I have a question on pharmacist intern hours for NY state. I looked over the BoP website, and at one place it says that 6 months of internship experience must be completed before sitting for the MPJE, and it another place it says that this internship is not necessary if you are in a Doctor of Pharmacy program. Additionally, these intern hours cannot be earned while school is also in session. Can anybody with experience clarify what exactly is needed regarding these intern hours?

New York state has no minimum amount of hours that must be completed prior to applying for licensure. The 6 month requirement that you ran across is a holdover from before the exclusive PharmD era.

New York state has also begun offering Part III of the licensing exam (compounding) in January of the P4 year. In order to take the exam earlier, you're required to complete 1,000 intern hours. Hours completed as part of the IPPE/APPE requirements cannot be used for this requirement.

Hope that helped!
