I will be starting my fourth year soon and I plan on applying for EM. I would like to get a residency in NYC as my wife will be a PGY-1 in pediatrics this upcoming July. I know there are residency reviews for most of the programs but, many are outdated or not much detail. I was hoping some people on this forum that are residents or attendings at some of the programs below could share some information. Another issue is the trauma experience. I know all of these programs provide enough trauma experience but will that be enough to work at a place with lots of trauma when I'm an attending?I know NYC is a competitive place for EM and I don't think I'll be competitive enough for NYU, Mt. Sinai, Bellevue, Jacobi/Montefiore, or Downstate. I'm a slightly below average student from an average state school, which doesn't make me that attractive to some of these programs.
Four year programs:
Brooklyn Hospital
Lincoln
Three year programs:
Einstein Beth Israel
Methodist
Maimonides
Metropolitan
Staten Island
St. Luke's-Roosevelt
North Shore
Stony Brook

Don't forget about NYHQ, interviewed there, very nice program overall. NYC programs are attractive to a lot of ppl so i guess a bit competitive, but the good news is there are many. Apply to all of them and you have a good shot.

I would apply EVERYWHERE. You never know where you'll get an interview.
