NYC residents i need your help!

I have an interview at nyu and columbia, and i'm scheduling the dates close together so that i would only have to fly out to NY once. Do any NY residents have any hotel recommendations somewhere in between nyu and columbia (google maps shows they're only 7 miles apart!). NY has good public transportation so i'd be fine taking a subway/taxi/bus right?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
