I was wondering if anyone could give me a few tips on the best way to get to Albert Einstein (Bronx) and SUNY-Downstate (Brooklyn). The last time I went to NYC was when I was like 5 or something so I really have no idea of how NYC is laid. Oh yeah, and I'll be landing at JFK each time. Oh yeah,
does anyone have any suggestions on which hotels I should stay at. I'm arriving a day early for SUNY interview so I was thinking maybe staying in Manhattan. (or would it be better to get a hotel in the Bronx and take public transportation to see Times Square and rest of Manhattan?) Thanks!!!!

hey lakersfan im from NYC and can help you w/ the trains. from JFK you can hop right on the A train to go anywhere basically (8th ave express train) or take a cab. its $35 flat free to any part of manhattan (provided that you dont get into a sketchy gypsy cab that is.)
dont those schools have student hosting programs so you dont have to spend $ on hotels ?

to get to einstein from manhattan, if you're on the east side then take the 5 train to East 180th St. Then transfer to the Morris Park Avenue bus (No. 21) to Eastchester Road.
if youre on the west side take the 2 train to to East 180th St. Then take the Morris Park Avenue bus (No. 21) to Eastchester Road.

Dont worry, AE is in a nice part of the BX. SUNY downstate is in east flatbush brooklyn.
TO get there, during rush hour, take the 2 train or 5train to the Winthrop Street station. [Take any IRT Brooklyn-bound train (#2, 3, 4, or 5) to Nevins Street in Brooklyn, changing there for a #2 or #5 marked "Flatbush Avenue". Exit at Nostrand and Parkside avenues. Cross Nostrand Avenue and walk one block on Parkside Avenue until it ends at New York Avenue. Turn right onto New York Avenue. Cross New York Avenue and walk east on Clarkson Avenue until the entrance at 450 Clarkson Avenue. (admission office)

im sure the schools webpages can help too.

if you are going from BX to BK give yourself a LOT of time. if you are confused by the trains, look at the MTA home page for individual line maps
Hope that helped, good luck.

By the way, when were you complete at AECOM and SUNY and whens your interview? thanks

Whoopps! acidhouse...sorry 😳
I did a complete inference of the name...don't really know why though

I can tell you that from Port Authority (34th Street) in Manhattan to get to Einstein (via the subway and Morris Park Ave bus), it took me about an hour and 30 min. (including waiting time for the bus, subway, etc etc). I was on the subway during rush hour, too (4pm)

From Grand Central to SUNY Downstate (Got off at the Winthrop St. stop), I took the Express Train (5) during rush hour (it runs only during rush hour!!), and it took me about 35-40 minutes. My SUNY interview ended after rush hour (around 2:00 pm), so I had to take the 2 train back into Port Authority. Just ask anyone around where the Winthrop St. Westbound Train stop is and they will direct you to it, since the Westbound train is not where you got off for the Eastbound. (Westbound train platform is only a block away near some grocery stores).

Give yourself PLENTY of time. I would stay with student hosts either nights. Einstein has a great hosting program, and students almost always have couches or futons to crash on. I am not sure about SUNY Downstate though. Didn't try to ask for a host there, since I stayed with a friend in Manhattan.

Good Luck! The metro system rocks, though. It takes you everywhere.
