Has anyone received anything from the Financial Aid office after filling out their FAFSA? If yes, how long after the FAFSA was submitted? Thanks everyone.

Hey, I submitted my FAFSA in early January and have heard nothingg. I'll probably wait till the end of March before sending them an e-mail to see what the time frame for getting the loan info, etc. Let me know if you hear anything! 🙂

anybody who fills out a fafsa and declares themself an independent should be able to get all the aid they need right? (up to the COA of course)

They must, otherwise I guess I'm not affording med school this fall. haha

Ok, let me down easy...

Friend applied to NYCOM in Oct/Nov, received the secondary, etc. We have not heard back since.

Stats:

NY resident
Boston University '09
GPA: 3.2 (maybe 3.3)
MCAT: 29Q

She sent an update letter yesterday, research was just published that she worked on in college.

I know that her cousin just got an interview offer a few days ago, so NYCOM is not done interviewing.

Any info or recommendations would be appreciated!

When was her AACOMAS application completed and sent out? I submitted mine in probably August-September, and it wasn't sent out to the schools until November or so. I received my interview invite in early January. I interviewed on March 3rd, waiting to hear back now. Super nervous!

(Btw, my grades/stats are very similar to hers, almost identical!)

Well, the interview invite came before the secondary was submitted. They invite you regardless of whether your secondary is completed, its just based on your stats.

Did you do something super special or have DO letters?...since you said your stats were similar to hers.

As someone said, the secondary doesn't matter and neither do the letters (they only matter for admission after the interview).

I didn't do anything special. Just sent in my AACOMAS in about Sept, got an interview in early January. Then sent in my secondary.

November does seem very late. It probably took until December to even get verified. If she doesn't get an interview this time, my advice would be to get the primary done much earlier next year.

Yea I remember that BU screwed up sending stuff for awhile and then it took the AACOMAS site forever to send. Her MD app went out a lot faster unless the site just doesn't update quickly.

Should she call on Monday to get a status of her application, which would give AdCom time to meet on Friday?

The downstaters just got their letters and so far I haven't heard of anyone getting them from upstate, ny. It'll take longer and longer according to where you are.

Is it worth calling the admissions office to check on the status of your application? Will that annoy them? Does the secretary even know anything beyond "wait for an e-mail?"

You can try and call, but they will just say its under review after they ask you if you submitted primary and secondary, kind of frustrating. Took them 2 months after I was complete to hear back about an interview.

Does anyone know if there's a way to extend the March 29th deadline (I think that's the deadline anyway) for the deposit? I have another interview and I kind of want to wait to see how that turns out before I commit to a school...

Congrats, you going to Erie or NYCOM?

Honestly, its been a hard decision for me. My deposit for Erie is due 3/19. I think Im going with NYCOM since its only 2 hrs from home, all of their affliations, and the technology. I loved Erie and the low tuition/rent, but they didnt have any simulators and their rotations were mostly ohio, pittsburgh n buffalo. I hope im making the right decision.

I honestly don't remember when I received all that info. I'm pretty sure the financial aid stuff will come further into the spring and the orientation info will come closer to the summer. In the meantime, focus on finding some nice housing (if applicable) and finding the lender you want to use for your loans. Other than that, enjoy your time while you still have it and stop worrying about when you're going to receive this and that; when they send it out, you'll get it. 😉

Hey! for everyone curious about financial aid, I spoke to someone from financial aid about 2 weeks ago. They said they are running behind this year and still haven't chosen if they would be taking their loans from "sally mae or many different lenders" they said don't expect to get/hear anything soon 🙁

I called admissions the other day and the woman told me that they stop giving invites out at the end of march so if I dont hear anything by then, I was never selected. Its kind of annoying because they dont even say anything about the status of my application. I've seen numbers with ~90% acceptance post-interview, but I'm not sure how true those are. In any case I'm pretty sure it's high.
