anyone get accepted to NYCOM? if so, how much is tuition and what do you think about the school and their program? replies greatly appreciated!!🙂

Tuition is a little over $30,000 - close to $32,000 if I'm not mistaken. While my opinion may be biased, I think that NYCOM's programs are good and I believe that the school prepares us well for what we're going to be seeing in the future! Let me know if you have any other specific questions. 🙂 🙂

I think tuition is closer to $28-29K, but it goes up to about $31K if you choose to take the health insurance they offer. I dont remember the exact numbers, but this is the ballpark. It aint cheap.

I'm a third year at nycom and have been pleased so far. The preclinical years are probably similar to many schools.... most of it is what you make of it. I worked hard, did fine, and did well on my boards. Rotations are probably the best of the D.O. world as the hospitals nycom gets to rotate at are some very decent hospitals, affiliated with the likes of NYU, Yale, Einstein, Cornell, etc.

oceandocDO, Thanks for the information. NYCOM is my first choice of schools and I am waiting every second for a response from them. My application is complete, but so far, no news.

Anyway, it's nice to hear great stuff about a place that I'm so turned on about. JJF

Hi! I don't think NYCOM has handed out many interviews yet, at least according to what I see on this website. I am hoping to hear from them soon too, I would LOVE to live in NYC

Good luck to you

thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate it. the interview feedback info is great, but sometimes you have to distinguish others feelings from fact and that can be confusing at times. I know I saw alot of complaints about their buildings being ancient and a small library, but i guess I'll have to see for myself.
thanks again!🙂

Can any NYCOM students tell us how far NYC is from NYCOM? Is there any public transport to Manhattan, a train or something? Where exactly on Long Island is the school? Thanks!

I am from Long Island, and I can tell you that NYCOM is about 35 miles from the city. Not a terrible commute, but it's probably not practical to think you'll live in the city and go to school in Old Westbury. That translates to about 50 minutes by train, or about 40 by car. (as you know, add LOTS of time to that if you're driving at rush hour.) The train is a good way to travel, but the train station is actually the next town over.

Yeah, commuting from Manhattan is probably not recommended for the first two years, although I know several people who did it every day and didnt mind it. Just leave for school early in the morning and stick around campus to study for awhile after class to avoid the traffic. The campus itself is in Old Westbury, a sleepy (and rich) town on the north shore of long island. It's actually pretty suburban for being only 20 geographic miles from NYC. For third and fourth year, it's very possible to live in the city and rotate though some of the city hospitals. Many do it.

What did NYCOM do to replace the OPP department that left this past summer? Who's teaching now?

oceandocDO,
Where can you go online to see the match results for different schools?

They hired some new faculty, I believe they are starting soon. Losing the few OMM faculty wasnt really that big of a deal. No curriculum was sacrificed to my knowledge. The clinic is backed up with patients, but teaching hasnt been much affected. Only 3 professors left anyway, and 2 of them I was almost happy to see leave as they didnt add much IMO.

Good question. Some schools list their match lists on their website. NYCOM doesnt for some reason, but that may be b/c their website sucks in the first place. I think the list I copied from another post came from someone who got a rough digital copy and pasted it on here someway. It's not a complete list, as I see there's a few programs missing, but what's included is correct as I compare it to the printed copy the school put out.
