if you can, ask him or her for me, Do they need the LORs in before they offer interviews for NYCOM? Because they don't give the secondary portion out until the interview stage so I wasn't sure how it works.

They don't require that they have all your LORs in by the time you interview, but it would be good to get it in ASAP because if your file is complete, then can discuss your file in the next Adcom meeting. If you think snail mail might take too long, make sure you FedEx it and fax a copy over to them (NYCOM has lost files in the past as well, so it would be good to always fax a copy if your letters). Delaying it would just mean they've given out more acceptance spots before they even evaluate you. Remember, it's rolling admissions.

I htink it is a good idea to have your letters of rec in by the timem you interview. At my NYCOM interview, the two guys that interviewed me had already studied my file and new everything about me. I was most worried becuase my grades and experience were good, but my MCATs were lower than they should have been. So the positiive recommendations put a positive spin on my file. Bottom line, the interviewers already had an impression of me before I walked into that door. ANything you can add to your file to make it as good as possible will help you out.

Also, at the end of the interview day, thatguy Schaeffer will call you into his office one by one and go over your whole file to make sure that your file is ocmplete, and is ready to be considered by the admissions committee. You want it to be full when you walk into his office just in case there are any other problems, you can clear them up.

Any other questions about NYCOM's application or interview process, j ust let me know. I just applied htis past year, and will be attending NYCOM in the fall, actually in a month (ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

When do they usually start inviting people to thier interviews?

that I really don't know. I applied really late. I sent out my application in October I think and got called for my interview in January. My interview was early february and I received my acceptance letter a week after my interview. hope that helps.

That's my exact schedule! hehe When did you interview? We might have been on the same day...

So how did it go? Did you find out anything interesting?

Like I said, it was informal. I am no where near ready to apply but wanted to hear what they had to say anyway. I am still finishing up my pre-reqs and will not be applying until this coming spring of 2005, for fall of 2006 admissions.

However, that guy Schaeffer is retiring this year and Rodika will take his place. We talked about that virtual disease dummy they are getting, which is pretty cool.

I found it interesting that they admitted 58% women last year. And they accepted 237 applicants last year into their incoming class.

I live very close to NYCOM and would be happy going there. I am going to keep on checking their website for their next open house. I can see myself going there, I will apply there when the time comes! 😍

hey Jules0328- I've never been to Long Island before but how is the area around NYCOM? Is the campus close to the beach? I think I remember hearing someone say it's 10 minutes away.
