I heard a rumor that NYCOM is going to change its name to New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic medicine, NYITCOM. Anyone else hear something to this effect?

I would be really really against this. "NYCOM" has a great track record and is a recognizable name amongst many students/physician and recognized by many PDs. Changing it to NYITCOM or whatever would be unnecessary and only cause unnecessary confusion. Why change a title thats been around since the school started 30+ years ago?
I know that this is a ridiculously old post but I thought I'd post since we got word today that as of Dec 5th, NYCOM will be changing it's name to NYIT-COM. Needless to say, most of the student body is not pleased by the news. Personally, I find it to be a sick joke.👎
And the downward spiral continues...🙁
Doesn't NYIT carry slightly more name recognition in the region? Also, doesn't a strong university affiliation give a school more credibility. Look at the new school at Hofstra, Hofstra LIJ . I can't think of a medical school that ignores the name of the parent university. In the future this could be a better move. I may just value the NYIT name because I work in IT and they produce great graduates. Also, I know many NYIT PA grads, which helps with name recognition as well.
NYIT is one of the more respected technology schools in NY. It is not a trade school like ITT tech, but a private engineering and technology school. It is not a wannabe MIT, but most states have an institute of technology in the same vein as MIT or Cal, just not as prestigious. If it was New York Tech rather than institute of technology I would understand the trade school comparison. Institutes of technology tend to be well known in engineering, architecture, and computer science circles.
It is top 50 in North regional colleges in US News, so it probably has far more name recognition in the Northeast.
All I know is my firm in silicon alley in Manhattan recruits NYIT big time and I have friends who were offered engineering jobs during junior year there. I never understood why NYCOM didn't want to use a name that is at least regionally established.

As someone who has spent 5 years in branding, I wholeheartedly disagree.
