Realistically, what do you think will be the long-term effects of the merger?

The NBOME was unwilling to even cancel the PE which means they don't like change. I feel like they should at least switch the scoring system to the one that's used by the usmle, so that it's easier for PDs to interpret.

In my opinion it will take generational change to see changes form the AOA or NBOME. It will take current residents and students to get involved and be the driver of that change.

I think changing scoring, getting rid of COMLEX completely and just adding an OMM portion are all reasonable but that will not happen, in my opinion, for quite awhile.

Overall, I think the long term effects of the merger will be good for the profession and for DOs. More concerning is rapid expansion of DO schools. Just look what happened to EM and residency expansion.
