NYCOM out-of-state applicants

How friendly is NYCOM to out of staters? I understand that it's a private school, but from what I understand it only accepts ~20% out-of-state applicants. Is this figure about right? According to medschool.com, the avg GPAs are 3.2..would you agree that this number is accurate? About how many applicants get an interview? Roughly, how many of those were accepted? Of those...how many were out-of-state?

What about the early birds? If you're an out-of-state applicant and apply early, how much does that affect the potential outcome of your application to NYCOM? Other Schools?

Most of the students accepted to NYCOM are from New York. It is also to your advantage to apply early, because students are accepted on a rolling basis. So if you are out of state, it would be best that you apply as early as you can. good luck,

When I spoke to the Director of Admissions at NYCOM, Michael Schaeffer, he said that even out-of-state applicants who applied really early in the cycle were held off until some time in January/February to allow preference for New York State residents.

The school shows a strong preference for the people of New York.

Preference is given to NY State and northern NJ residents (75% of entering class).

I applied for the 2000 entering class as a California resident, although I'm originally from NY. I was wait-listed, and never got the call. However, amid the re-application process for 2001, I got a letter from NYCOM offering me a spot for 2001. I hounded them day after day while I was on the waitlist, and I guess all my effort was worth it.

Not all NY - like the Gower said - b/c I'm from central Jersey and got accepted. But it does seem that preference is given to tri-state folks
