Does anyone know how "what's next" works after they receive our AACOMAS?
I got a letter saying they got my application and will request a secondary if I should qualify for an interview....I believe they told me on the phone that they wouldn't even begin to look over applications until sometime in Sept/Oct (since I was concerned about my August MCAT scores being considered)...
But what does this phase of the process involve? Are they looking for certain numbers mainly? If so, what stats are decent at this phase? Will they look at your PS and extras on your AACOMAS? Anyone know? What's their "style"/admissions process like (i.e. number-lovers? etc)...How tough are they compared to other DO programs?

nycom is at the bottom of the barrel as far as D.O. school admission standards. You should do fine.

Really? Based on the threads I'd seen on SDN regarding all that NYCOM wait-list noise and the fact that the school only asks secondaries of those it interviews, I naturally assumed they were toughies...Interesting..

Why at the bottom of the barrel?
Maybe I should apply😀 and forget about taking the MCAT again😀 😀 .
I actually have my heart set on another school (closer to where I live) but they are looking for a bit higher scores from me (as they said) so I'll have to retake the MCAT again, and apply next year (to start 2008🙁 ...and waste all that time!). Any oppinions?

I don't know why anyone would say they are 'at the bottom in terms of admissions standards'. The stats from US News are like this:

Applications; Interviews; Acceptances; Enrolled
NYCOM 660/2637; 367/353; 286/254; 198/112

First number is In State, second is Out of State

i know personally of this. They do tend to accept people with low Numbers.............actually its useually just people with lopsided applications, like high GPA & real low MCAt or vise versa, However this school puts out some amazing physicians, I know that first hand as well

Find the school that best fits what you are looking for in a medical school. Just about every DO school will get bashed by other DO students or MD(Carribean, US,etc.) students so ignore it all.

NYCOM has an open house in Novemeber I believe. If they repeat what they have been doing in the past then you will not see interview invites until 1-2 weeks after the Open House. First interviews are in late Nov/early December I believe.

We have about 250 students (not including EPP) so i'm sure there is a wide spectrum of grades/GPA.

PM me if you have questions.
