Dear Applicant for the Entering Class of 2008:

We are pleased to acknowledge receipt of your AACOMAS application. The Admissions Committee begins reviewing applications in October with interviews beginning in November. Selection for interviews will be based upon the AACOMAS primary application. Please note this valuable information:

  • Supplemental applications will only be sent to candidates who are chosen to be interviewed.
  • You may have your letters of recommendation forwarded directly to NYCOM at this time. Please forward them to: [address]
  • Since all notifications are sent out by mail, it is important that you notify AACOMAS directly of any changes in your address and contact information.
  • Due to the large number of applications received by NYCOM it will not be possible to conduct individual status checks. We will be contacting you regarding the completion of your application as the Admissions Committee conducts reviews.
We look forward to reviewing your application and wish you success in your academic pursuit.

Sincerely,
Rodika Zaika, MS
Director of Admissions

I got the same thing today, it sucks!!

it's not that big of a deal, guys. at least when you do hand in (and most importantly, pay for) your secondary, you're getting an interview. as for the status checks, other schools have a similar policy, though they aren't as explicit. some schools that i would call up, i would get very little information regarding my status. also, NYCOM is the 2nd largest med school in the country, so you have to sympathize with them there.

another tip - if you are out of state (even NJ and CT), you most likely won't be interviewing as early as NY applicants. I'm from NJ and was complete in mid-October. My file wasn't seriously reviewed until January, and my interview was in February. so keep that in mind, since status checks aren't recommended.

Good information, Vix, thank you. Disappointing, but good to know. 😉

Ah well, just have to play their game. At least it wasn't a rejection! (I got nervous when I saw the thin envelope.)

I was the exact opposite, I saw the letter from NYCOM and thought it was an interview invite only to be disapointed🙁 But it is better than being rejected!

I am a NY resident so hopefully I will get an early interview!

Hang in their guys. This is all part of the application game. NYCOM has acknowledged that they received your application. Last cycle my interview invite in January came about a month after getting this letter.

Got the same letter last year! I was complete in September, but I'm out of state (NJ), and didn't interview until March. It definitly sucks waiting when other schools are interviewing now, and some people will already know where they are going by October, but its not uncommon at NYCOM. :luck:

Hey guys,

NYCOM likes to take its time with the application cycle. In-staters usually start interviewing around late Oct/early Nov and out of staters start around Jan or later! I think their application cycle lasts until April/May.

I'm instate and didn't even get my interview until the very last (or next to last) interview date. Anyways, hang in there...this is just the beginning, and if you received that letter, you're in good shape. Good luck!

Yeah, it's oh-so-great. ...with non-refundable "hold my space" deposits around $1500 or more, it's super awesome for NYCOM to be so slow.

I know what you mean...I lost TWO deposits because of it! 😉 Oh well, just the cost of doing business.

If multiple acceptances are your biggest problem, and you're this bent out of shape, you're really going to be in trouble
