has anyone ever visited? i'll be flying out to nyc this coming week..emailed them and got a very short reply that next week is their class inauguration week, so they'll be busy...

oooook.....so i asked about the following week...Any tips anyone? Maybe I should just tour the school on my own? But was hoping to find someone friendly in admissions to greet me.

Anyone know how long it takes to get there from Manhattan?
THANKS!!!

OK, so I just got another one-liner Email from NYCOM...Like I said, the first time around they told me that the week I am visiting NY, they would be busy with ceremonies...So then I asked them about the NEXT week, and they said "sorry we are not scheduling visits at this time..." (like in GENERAL)...NOW I HAVE NEVER heard of such a thing, either that or they just don't like me...But my impression is that they're a bit on the rude side...Am I alone?

Its on the north shore of long island not a far drive, but if your taking public transportaion you would have to take the Long Island Rail Road into I think Greenvale is the closest and a short cab ride to the school.

For driving just take the Long Island Expressway east to Glen Cove Road [exit 39 I think and take that for a few miles and make a right onto route 25A and its a few blocks down.

Greenvale is the closest stop to NYCOM on the LIRR. NYCOM lists another station on their website but that one is further away. Although the school is probably 1-2 miles away it is probably best to just get a cab from there.

From Manhattan you can take Penn Station (34th & 8ave) to Greenvale via LIRR. Transfer in Jamaica. takes 30min-1 hour depending on the departure.

NYCOM offers open house once each year in November. I have never heard of them giving individual tours for premeds but i have heard that occasionaly a student has met with someone in admissions. the Open house is a better investment of your time if you can not get a meeting.

NYCOM being rude? Hey at least they got back to you. TWICE!

Next week will most definitely be hectic at NYCOM. I am a first year student and the week of August 21st is our orientation week. I went to the open house in November last year and it’s definitely worth taking the time to see the campus as well as meeting current students. I would say wait unit the open house to see how the school functions normally and not during orientation week.
