NYIT
Pros:
  • 20 minutes from my home (no rent + food costs, close to family+friends)
  • Potential for Doctor Patent Continuum Curriculum (Problem Based Learning Curriculum)
  • Currently have a strong network with physicians at surrounding hospitals
  • Better chance at matching in the northeast
  • P/F, Non-mandatory attendance
Cons:
  • Huge class size (negated if admitted to DPC curriculum)
  • Average Board scores
  • Older facilities and have heard mixed reviews about policies
  • Lacked gut feeling here
  • High tuition cost
PCOM
Pros:
  • Strong gut feeling, loved facilities and faculty and students
  • One of oldest and most established DO schools
  • Philly area which is exciting/2 hours from home
  • Strong rotations and affiliated hospitals and strong chance at matching in northeast
  • above average board scores, non mandatory attendance
Cons:
  • Living Expenses for Philly $$$
  • Further away from family (support) network (didn't rely on it in college but expecting that to change for med school)
Campbell:
Pro:
  • best gut feeling and nicest facilities, loved faculty and students
  • Located close to research triangle of NC and have heard great things from physicians in NC about clinical skills of CUSOM students vs. competing schools
  • Ample time to prep for boards and strong board scores
  • Low living expenses and tuition
Con:
  • Very far from home, located in rural south
  • New program
  • Mandatory attendance (don't mind the dress code)
  • Major focus on staying in south and practicing primary care post-residency
Thinking of practicing emergency medicine but definitely fluid at the moment, would like to practice in northeast with residency there. Ultimately am deciding between PCOM and NYIT and if difference in reputation and outcomes with PCOM over NYIT isn't extreme I'm leaning towards NYIT but am definitely interested in other opinions

It sounds to me that PCOM and NYIT rate higher based on your listed Pros/Cons. Both would be decent options as well. It depends how close to family you would like to be because that could be a big factor after you start at medical school. I'd suppose I give PCOM a slight edge since it is the Philadelphia campus.

Thanks so much for the reply, but yes for me I feel that there wouldn't be a tremendous difference between reputation of the schools (although I'm aware PCOM-Philadelphia is higher) and education provided where those slight advantages of PCOM would outweigh the benefits that being so close to home would provide when both schools are relatively comparable
